Forms and Fragments, curated by Patricia Miranda @patriciasuzannemiranda is now on view at our website and features the work of 73 artists. The link is in our bio. Forms and Fragments explores the relationship between what is transformed, remembered, assembled, or broken, and the shapes those experiences become. This exhibition considers the beauty of what remains, what is reconstructed, and what emerges. From shattered histories to merging organic structures, in personal, political, material, or conceptual ways. Keep an eye out for more Forms and Fragment posts. Michele Randall (1) Holding Within (2) You Look Like A "Fun Guy" We are pleased to have two of Michele Randall's pieces in our Exhibit. Michele, along with Tracy Cassagrande Clancy will be presenting "What Lies Beneath: Pairing Encaustic with Traditional And Innovative Materials" on Saturday at the Woodstock School of Art. She will be discussing how her recent work has shifted by using non-traditional materials. Michele states, "Objects, home, and my surroundings play a prominent role in my art practice. I’m really curious about the memories that stick with me and those that dissolve into thin air. As a result, my paintings reflect a collection of familiar colors or marks assembled into a faintly familiar form. Using encaustic wax as my primary medium, I’m able to offer glimpse of a place or subject through translucent layers and scraped marks. More recently, I’ve focused materials that are typically forgotten or inconsequential. Taking packing material that once protected items far more valuable than themselves, I create a sense of value by focusing time and materials on the object. Presentation details: What Lies Beneath, Pairing Encaustic with Traditional and Innovative Materials. 3:30 - 4:00 Visit the Exhibit and meet other artists 4:00 to 5:30 Presentation Location: Woodstock School of Art 2470 Route 212, Woodstock NY 12498 #encausticartist #woodstockschoolofart #encausticsculpture #encausticexhibition by @michelerandallart
This weekend I had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion for "The Light Divides and the Story Multiplies", an exhibit of cyanotype artwork created by area artists. It was the first time I had a chance to see the works in person. This summer has been busy with travel and teaching opportunities, giving me a big case of FOMO when the exhibit opened and I was not able to attend the reception. The works were beautifully curated and they displayed the breadth of possibilities the medium offers. I was blown away by the works of @cmlorenz, @andyjulo, @christineholtz, and @cathleenrichards. I was equally happy to learn that a second piece of my Ocean Series, "Kennebunkport" had sold! The show is up until October 30. Stop by at the @aap_pgh gallery in Lawrenceville if you get the change. by @michelerandallart
Tracy Casagrande Clancy The Importance of Being Brave encaustic, oil, image transfer, graphite, pigment stick, cheesecloth on birch panel Tracy uses her experience as a grief counselor to inform her encaustic work. She is constantly exploring both the traditional and more contemporary methods, such as the use of porcelain, plaster, and metals as substrates, her art. Her piece "The Importance of Being Brave" began with the tradition techniques, layering, fusing, and pigmenting the medium. She then chose multiple photographic image transfers as the base layer of this work and then began to then use pigment stick, oil paint and drawing oils to introduce subtle areas of color. She states, "I love to move encaustic paint around with a sharp-edged wedge when I am creating depth, so I created the horizon doing so and then used graphite to add some fine detail to the images, using personal mark-making and also some metallic pigment stick to highlight the texture created with a paint brush. Desiring more depth in the foreground, I embedded cheesecloth to suggest movement and airiness. In the end, my piece, "The Importance of Being Brave," is a nod to the fusion of both tradition and innovation in our encaustic world, using my repertoire of skills, to which I am adding constantly." Tracy Casagrande Clancy is a nationally and internationally recognized American artist. Known for her mixed media, encaustic and sculptural work, Tracy incorporates photography, painting and collage in her encaustic and cold wax pieces in her explorations of the theme of interconnectedness. Join us this Saturday, October 24 to hear more about her use of alternative techniques. Tracy, along with @michelerandallart, will be presenting "What Lies Beneath" at 4 - 5:30 pm at the Woodstock School of Art. There will be time mingle and view the exhibit from 3:30 to 4 pm. You can get a complete schedule of events on the IEA and Woodstock School of Art websites. Woodstock School of Art 2470 Route 212, Woodstock NY 12498 by @michelerandallart
This Saturday at 4, the @aap_pgh is hosting an artist panel for its current exhibit. The artists in The Light Divides and the Story Multiplies all work in cyanotype, and bring a variety of motivations to what we do. Dani Lamorte @zygo.phyll.aceae will moderate. Pick up a copy of the small publication we designed to accompany the show, and catch Dani’s essay about cyanotype in the world, ranging from Linda Rondstadt to Herschel to the wild alchemy of dyes where animal meets mineral. It’s going to be a great conversation. Dan Hendrickson @_danhendrickson curated the show and artists include Michele Randall @michelerandallart, Christine Holtz @christineholtzstudio, Cathleen Richards and Andy Julo @andyjulo . I'm looking forward to sharing my love of the cyanotype process. @aap_pgh #cyanotypeexhibit #pittsburghart by @michelerandallart
