Scary halloween on the train! Even the sun has taken to drink. by @michellejohnstonauthor

I know I know, who needs another book, I hear you say … but trust me on this. You DO, and it’s this one.
.
Launched officially last night, @michellejohnstonauthor’s #Fiftybeatingwonders feels like the book she was meant to write. I had the honour of reading an early version, and was struck by this book of stories within stories within stories that takes us from the tiny pebbles in our ears that keep us upright to the underworld basement of the Royal Perth Hospital to the connective tissue that holds our hearts to our aortas (less securely than we might like to believe, apparently), all set to the backing track of a beating heart searching for the meaning behind it all. Christmas is coming and there’s no one who won’t find something to ponder in it.

Congratulations Michelle on your latest book baby ❤️ by @michellejohnstonauthor

That joyous moment when you see your book for the first time, but even more so, seeing in it the illustrations by your favourite artist on the planet 💕 @eeaazzyyy___ by @michellejohnstonauthor

Only a few days till this book is sitting on bookshop shelves. It's for anyone in the medical field who has wondered why caring for human bodies and the wild, weird people that inhabit them is simultaneously so wondrous yet so jolly hard, AND for anyone who wonders what on earth their body is doing while they're not keeping an eye on it, and what all this has to do with evolution, the birth of stars, poetry, language, serendipity and support fish. #FiftyBeatingWonders by @michellejohnstonauthor

🎶 Are you, are you, coming to the tree, where they strung up a man, they say who murdered three …🎶 by @michellejohnstonauthor

Oh, @amandalookingupdown, one of Western Australia's greatest glittering literary gems, has again written a soaring book. Six Days is exquisitely rendered - shimmering beauty sitting seamlessly alongside the underbelly of Paris, these extraordinary 'noticings', a story of those on the edge and their tenacious lives. It is a visceral rendering of six days in the City of Light and of Love when neither of those things are in ready supply, interleaved with compelling history. We've waited a long time for this work, and it pays our patience back in kind. Brava Amanda, brava @terriann.white @upswellpublishingau by @michellejohnstonauthor

Went into this movie cold - seen no reviews, knew no plot - and found it spectacular - wild and imaginative and gripping and unpredictable and eye-opening story-telling and profound and hilarious and hand-over mouth surprise. I LOVED it. To hell with reviews, I say. Give me experience and artistic courage and urgent planetary messaging dressed as unapologetic weirdness, I say.

Dear, delightful internet friends and countrypeople, Fifty Beating Wonders is out at the end of the month. A book about the absurdity of our human bodies, the people that walk around wearing them, and the extraordinary humans trying to fix them when they misbehave, it is also about what ails us and what has failed us. It's about one flawed emergency physician wading through a lifetime of worry and wonder, and trying to figure out why *all this* (gesturing around wildly) is both so difficult and marvellous at the same time. The link to pre-orders is here, and in the bio. It means you get a sparkling copy as it's warm off the printer along with my abiding gratitude and adoration.
