You heard her with the MSO. Now she's at the Met! If you joined us for the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra's New Year's Eve concert last year, you may remember the extraordinary voice of soprano Viviana Goodwin, our featured guest soloist. We're thrilled to share that Viviana, at just 26 years old, has made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, performing the role of Litzie in the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli's Lincoln in the Bardo. It's an extraordinary milestone in a journey that began with a childhood dream in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and continued through years of dedication, training, and performances across the country. For those who experienced her performance with the MSO last December, it's especially exciting to see her talent taking her to one of the world's most celebrated opera stages. Please join us in congratulating Viviana on this wonderful achievement! We're proud to have shared the stage with her and can't wait to see where her career takes her next. Beethoven had a sense of humor. Who knew? When you think of Beethoven, you probably imagine powerful melodies, dramatic moments, and music filled with intensity. But there's another side to this legendary composer, and it might surprise you. His Symphony No. 8 is filled with playful rhythms, unexpected twists, and musical wit. This November, join the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra for Mary Howe Rediscovered, featuring Beethoven's spirited Eighth Symphony, Schubert's Fifth Symphony, and Mary Howe's Sand, Stars, and Whimsy. We'll bring this program to Easton on Thursday, November 5, at 7:30 PM at Easton Church of God, followed by Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, and Ocean Pines on Sunday, November 8, at 3:00 PM at Community Church. From Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory to the National Symphony Orchestra, Mary Howe helped shape American classical music. A pioneering composer with deep connections to our region, Howe studied composition at Peabody under Gustav Strube, the founding conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She later helped establish the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., in 1931. Yet despite her remarkable contributions, her own music is rarely heard today. This November, it's time to rediscover Mary Howe. The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra brings Howe's colorful and imaginative Sand, Stars, and Whimsy back into the spotlight, alongside two beloved masterpieces: Schubert's Symphony No. 5 and Beethoven's Symphony No. 8. With performances in Easton on November 5, Rehoboth Beach on November 7, and Ocean Pines on November 8, audiences across the Delmarva Peninsula will have the opportunity to discover a remarkable musical legacy with roots right here in our region.
