Peru | Part 3: Machu Picchu 🏔️

The main event!! Machu Picchu has been on the top of me bucket list since I was a kid. I have always been fascinated with the mystery of this “lost city” and the Incan culture.

I underestimated the hike up the trail, and have to admit, doing it with a toddler was a bit challenging 😅 and trying to keep her from climbing all of the walls was a sport in itself. But once we made it to the top, the views were AMAZING.

Mila’s favorite part of the day was the llamas! 🦙 she calls them “yama sheep” I can’t wait to show her all these pictures as she gets older. This trip has not been easy, but man has it been great.

Next & final stop is Cuzco! by @middle_manda

From 0 miles to training for 26.2… the past six months have been filled with so much learning, I felt like I needed to share!

I’m definitely not an expert. Just a mom figuring it out one mile at a time and hoping to show other women that we can do hard things, even in the middle of motherhood.

Comment RUN and I’ll send you my Amazon list of favorite running gear and recovery essentials!

1. Pelvic Floor PT: Started at @experienceoptimum and honestly, this was the foundation I needed. Still using so many of the tools and exercises I learned!

2. Acupuncture + Sports Massage: Travis Webb at ACUHealth has been amazing! Between knee pain, back pain, and stress, this combo has been such a helpful part of my recovery routine.

3. Strength Training: @genesis_riverpoint has basically become my second home. 🥲 I started working with a trainer on functional strength, and I’m learning SO much about how to support my body as I run more miles.

4. EATING! No restricting, no fearing carbs, and learning how important fueling actually is. @hellofresh makes getting balanced meals on the table easier, and @no_mames_nm has become a weekly necessity. THAT BURGER. 🍔

I also go through about a gallon a week of @creamlanddairyco 🥛

5. Good Gear: Shoes matter more than I ever realized! Altras have been my favorite so far. I’m also testing out different running gear and buying a lot of it secondhand!

6. A Flexible Training Plan: @runna has been a game changer. I’m not naturally a structured person, and between kids, work, and life, I NEED flexibility. Being able to move workouts around while still having a plan has been so helpful.

7. Mental Health: This one is HUGE. Running is just as much mental as it is physical. Weekly talk therapy, adjusting my SSRIs with my provider, and navigating hormone changes since stopping breastfeeding have all been part of this journey, too.

Sharing this because I want other women (especially moms!) to know that you can do hard things, too. You don’t need a perfect schedule, perfect body, or perfect circumstances to start.

I’ve put together an Amazon list of some of the running gear and recovery tools I’ve been loving!

But really, I’d trust him with my life 💇‍♀️

I fear I’ve accidentally become a runner.🏃‍♀️

#ad Because please explain how I went from “maybe I’ll start running again” to an October calendar that was full of back-to-back races, and somehow we’re still working toward 26.2

The biggest thing I’m learning as the miles pile up? I can’t treat recovery like an afterthought anymore.

@creamlanddairyco milk has become one of my favorite post-run rituals to help me refuel and recover before I ask my legs to do it all over again.

Apparently we’re runners now. Let’s keep going!

We carb-loaded at @bravoitaliankitchen this week with some delicious flatbreads, dips & pasta!

I’ll be dreaming about the Fra Diavolo Shrimp pasta made with spicy lobster cream sauce and their spinach artichoke dip with their garlic bread for dipping. DROOL!

They have tons of happy hour specials throughout the week with a great patio. I’ll be back to enjoy both!

Located in ABQ Uptown, save for your next night out!
