On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. "I think that for the moment, at least, we are as good as it gets. And the good, the potential good in us is still to be explored... so that we can become better human beings to ourselves as well as to others. And I sometimes feel we’re only at the threshold of those discoveries." Patrick Stewart (1940-2026) by @midtowncinema
Playing this FRIDAY NIGHT at 9:30 PM for one of our last CINEMAAAH! pictures: Michael Dougherty's horror anthology film, TRICK 'R TREAT (2007), starring Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Dylan Baker! Interwoven stories demonstrate that some traditions are best not forgotten as the residents (Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker) of a small town face real ghosts and goblins on Halloween. Tales of terror reveal the consequences of extinguishing a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight and a grumpy hermit's encounter with a sinister trick-or-treater... Opening THIS FRIDAY at Midtown: Noah Segan's THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK, starring John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tatiana Maslany! Read my entire review in this month's issue of The Burg magazine. Harry is an old-school hustler. A classic native New Yorker, he moves through life lubricating palms with cash, relying on his wits and connections. But times are changing for Harry. His daily pickpocket take isn’t green bills and wristwatches, it’s credit cards and cell phones. And one unfortunate night, cryptocurrency and a handgun... Is it unethical to post my own pull quotes? Let me know... Tickets will be on sale soon online and in person at the box office. by @midtowncinema
You can't believe everything you see. Playing TONIGHT at 7:30 PM for a titillating take on our CINEMAAAH! series: the one and only Brian De Palma's BODY DOUBLE (1984), a twisted and Hitchcockian erotic thriller starring Craig Wasson and Melanie Griffith! After losing an acting role and his girlfriend, Jake Scully (Craig Wasson) finally catches a break: he gets offered a gig house-sitting in the Hollywood Hills. While peering through the beautiful home's telescope one night, he spies a gorgeous blonde (Deborah Shelton) dancing in her window. But when he witnesses the girl's murder, it leads Scully through the netherworld of the adult entertainment industry on a search for answers -- with porn actress Holly Body (Melanie Griffith) as his guide... Playing TONIGHT at 9:30 PM for our latest CINEMAAAH! offering: Takashi Miike's cult thriller AUDITION (1999), starring Ryo Ishibashi and Eihe Shiina in the twisted and suspenseful yarn that helped make Takashi Miike a global figure in cinema! Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) is a widower who decides to start dating again. Aided by a film-producer friend (Miyuki Matsuda), Aoyama uses auditions for a fake production to function as a dating service. When Aoyama becomes intrigued by the withdrawn, gorgeous Asami (Eihi Shiina), they begin a relationship. However, he begins to realize that Asami isn't as reserved as she appears to be, leading to gradually increased tension and a harrowing climax...
