First Year as Head Coach in the books ✅. The season was full of challenges, both good and bad, but nothing can take away the joy I had in raising strong, emotionally resilient young men that have beyond a bright future. One thing coaches tend to focus on are the things that makes a player excel at the sport, but a great coach (a few of them) taught me the importance of creating high achieving young men, and letting the sport follow suit. We don’t need to teach boys to become professional athletes, rather we should teach them the importance of forming the habits that lead to future success: extract the principles of the sport and apply them to everyday life. Coaching these group of kids has taught me that when you put the kids first, the lessons of the game will follow and reinforce all that we talk on. In addition, I have developed a great level of care and respect for each of these young men in a way that makes me hold a high level of accountability for their success. I am proud of the growth this team has done to be one of the best in school history (so far). It’s more than a game, it’s more than “ball is life,” but rather how life can be learned from this round ball that has helped me be the man I am today. I’m thankful to get this opportunity and hope to continue inspiring our youth how they can achieve anything when they develop strong habits and a positive work ethic. Always push for sports and music as they teach lessons well beyond that the classroom could never offer. Without those things, I’d sure as heck be doomed so we must show the way. #highschoolsports #athletics #studentsctivities #basketball by @mikedachamp
First week with the Jr. Miami Heat 🏀🔥 Coached alongside legends, learned from some of the best, and worked with 99 kids from over 20 countries. From daily coaches’ meetings with Tony Fiorentino to station work, games, and growth — this camp was special. An honor to coach alongside one of the ’90s greatest shooters… and Glen Rice too 😉 thank you uncle @tony.fiorentino.33 Grateful for the opportunity and the culture. #HeatCulture #JrHeatCamp #CoachLife #BasketballFamily #SummerHoops by @mikedachamp

A powerful day at Lincoln University, where legacy met history in the most meaningful way. Today, my grandfather, James Joshua Thomas—Class of 1946—was honored through an incredible archival display, thanks to the thoughtful work of student Drake Smith. His dedication brought my grandfather’s journey at Lincoln back to life and reminded us all of the shoulders we stand on. ✊🏽📚 To make the moment even more special, my cousin Governor Wes Moore received an honorary doctorate. Full circle doesn’t even begin to describe it. 🎓 Grateful for this moment, this place, and this lineage. 🖤 Thank you, Drake, for preserving and spotlighting such remarkable history. #LincolnUniversity #Legacy #FamilyHistory #HBCUPride #WesMoore #ClassOf1946 #Gratitude #ArchivalWork #BlackExcellence by @mikedachamp
