Last night was a great reminder that sometimes the best way to tell the story is to show people what happened behind the camera.

Big thank you to the Virginia Production Alliance, Ramona Leigh Taylor, and Steve Taylor for having us on the panel and giving us the opportunity to talk about how we actually shot Sundays After Church.

We didn’t have a Hollywood-sized budget or unlimited time. We had a vision, a tight schedule, a committed cast and crew, and a lot of problem-solving.

We shot 5 episodes in just 10 days.

That meant making decisions quickly, maximizing every location, moving with purpose, and finding creative ways to get the production value we needed without spending money we didn’t have.

That’s really the story behind Sundays After Church — not just what you see on screen, but everything it took to get it there.

Appreciate everyone who came out, asked questions, shared their experiences, and continues to support independent filmmaking coming out of Richmond.

The conversation continues. 🎬 by @milespleaseshutup

It was around this time of day (7am), 4 years ago, that I woke up after drinking heavily one night and not really certain how my night had ended. After a few minutes I remembered falling off my scooter and, wondering if it was a dream or not, I looked out the back window to find a bunch of grass sticking out the side of my Honda Ruckus. I realized my milk crate was gone and so was all the important stuff I had in it (laptop, hard drive, phone, business cards, drugs), so I got back on it and went on a search mission.
I found where I crashed but some of my things had been stolen (laptop & hard drive), but I found my phone, my bag and everything else.
I realized I could have hurt myself, someone else, gotten arrested, or worse.
While thinking about all this I looked over at the sign for the restaurant across the street, it read “Halfway House.”
I decided if I didn’t stop drinking I was going to totally lose control of my life and end up even more miserable than I already was at the time. So I quit.
It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever made in my life and there are days where I still struggle with my sobriety. Thanks to @bob_byjoe and all the wonderful people at @bensfriendshope for getting me started with going to meetings. Otherwise I would’ve never met @bevelcut_shawti and started @riffsandrecovery. Being a part of a sober community is the most empowering thing an addict can do. If it wasn’t for them I would have probably relapsed by now. Instead I can say today that I have been 4 years clean without a single drop of alcohol and that’s something I never thought I could do.
Thank you to everyone along the way that has shown their support and given me strength when I felt powerless. You all mean so much to me and words cannot express my gratitude.
So today Aspen and I are going to get matching tattoos to celebrate our friendship, Riffs and Recovery and everything else about being sober in this world. by @milespleaseshutup

The dog days of summer linger on, but we aren’t gonna let the heat bring us down🔥

With your support we have raised $565 towards our goal for our summer fundraiser.

The summer months are always the hardest time of the year for our space. Between high temperatures and summer vacations, surviving the HEAT WAVE is always a challenge.

Your support allows Gallery5 to continue providing free and accessible mission driven programming, pay local artists, and keep the AC flowing.

Over the course of the month, we are trying to raise $10,000 to help offset operating costs.

Mark yer calendars for August 30th!!! We will be closing out the fundraiser with a “hot girl summer” benefit concert (lineup announced NEXT WEEK)

RIP 804 🪦 When we had @milespleaseshutup in the studio to film an episode of @americashealthiestcity with @wills_melton - these 2 got to talking. With 804 being replaced by 686, how do we now refer to the city we love? The Rich? RVA? Still 804?
