👀 Think like an owner. It’s the mindset of the people who get furthest in their careers.

An ownership mindset means taking full responsibility for the quality, process and outcome of your work, instead of just carrying out tasks.

There’s psychology behind why it works. It’s called the IKEA effect: we value things more when we’ve helped build them. Whether it’s a piece of furniture, a project or a new initiative, the more of yourself you put into something, the more committed you become.

Yes, your company and manager need to create a culture that encourages this. But a lot of it is in your hands.

3 shifts to make this week:

🔁 Blame ➝ Responsibility
When something goes wrong, ask: “What part of this can I own, and how do I fix it?”

🎯 Task ➝ Outcome
Don’t stop at “done.” Check whether the result actually solved the problem or moved the bigger goal forward.

⚡ Waiting ➝ Initiating
Spot roadblocks early and fix issues before they grow, without being asked.

Make these shifts and you’ll feel more invested in your work, and people will notice your contribution a lot more.

👀 Knowing how to challenge upwards is one of the most important skills you can develop in your career.

I know it can feel awkward, but your boss actually wants you to have your own perspective and challenge them in the right way.

Here's how to do it using my 5Ps for Influence & Challenge:

1. Purpose
Be clear on your desired outcome. Start with your shared goal and signal your intention. You’re ultimately on the same team.

2. Problem
State the specific issue you see clearly, succinctly and neutrally. Don't lead with opinions or emotions.;

3. Proof
Support your perspective with evidence. Bring data, examples, trends or relevant past patterns.

4. Pre-empt
What happens if you stay on the current path? Help them understand the potential consequences and what's at stake.

5. Propose
Once you’ve established the purpose, problem, proof and potential consequences, it becomes much easier to land the proposal you actually want to make.

The ability to challenge someone senior to you without creating unnecessary tension is a career-changing skill.

Try the 5Ps the next time you want to challenge your boss.

Should I?? 👀🎙

Stop firefighting. Start thinking critically. 🧠

If you keep coming up the same problems over and over again, you're probably tackling the symptom instead of fixing the cause.

Try the 5 Whys technique. Keep asking why until you get beneath the surface and uncover what’s really driving the problem.

It was developed by Sakichi Toyoda, the founder of Toyota as a root cause analysis technique.

It's miind-blowingly simple (one quesion, one word) but supremely helpful.

Try it. It's the perfect technique to hack your way to the kind of thinking that helps you move from simply getting things done to making a bigger impact.

Don’t just be the person who fixes the problem. Be the person who works out why it keeps happening.

“Be more strategic.” Sounds great. But what does that actually look like in practice?

It means learning to look beyond what's right in front of you.

💡 Zoom out. Connect the dots. Understand how your work contributes to the wider team's objectives and the business's bottom line.

💡 Fast-forward. Look around corners. Think several steps ahead. What could your decisions set in motion? What risks or unintended consequences might you be missing?

That's how you begin demonstrating you're ready for the next level.

Staying quiet in meetings is holding you back in your career. Here's how to change it.

💡 Stop overthinking. The longer you rehearse your point in your head, the more likely the conversation will move on.

💡 Stop waiting for a groundbreaking insight. A simple question or an obvious observation can be exactly what the room needs.

💡 Challenge ideas without creating defensiveness. Try “I'd like to offer a different perspective” or “Have we considered…?” And build on someone's point with “and” rather than “but”.

Remember, your voice is part of your visibility. If you want to be seen as someone ready for the next level, you need to contribute to the conversation, not just sit in it.
