The older I get, the more I relate to Nightwing. He stepped out of Batman’s shadow to figure out who he was on his own terms.

I feel that. I’ve spent so much time trying to fit in and live up to expectations. But I’m learning I don’t have to prove myself to anyone 💙✨

feeling pretty in my own skin lately 💗

I wish my 16 year old self could see me now. Took me a long time to get here, and I still have my insecure days, but it feels so good to feel less self conscious and more free. Making up for all those years I spent hiding in the dark 🧚✨

✨ My acne scar journey

I’ve been dealing with acne scars since I was a teenager. For years, they shaped the way I saw my skin and, honestly, parts of how I saw myself. Now at 37, I’m finally giving myself the opportunity to address something that has affected my confidence for so much of my life.

In April, I underwent multimodality acne scar treatment with Dr. Emer @jasonemermd, including TCA CROSS, microdroplet silicone, and laser treatments, which made a significant difference in my acne scars and laid the foundation for where my skin is today. Then on 9/30, I continued my acne scar journey closer to home with Dr. Saedi @drnazsaedi, using Halo and deeper Erbium TRL resurfacing to continue working on some of my more stubborn scars.

🩹 I’m only on post laser day 5, so I’m very much still healing, and this is definitely not an “after” photo. But seeing where I started compared with where I am now makes me appreciate just how far my skin and I have come.

My scars have also held me back from exploring parts of myself creatively, including performance art like drag. Treating them has become about more than trying to make scars disappear. It’s helping me develop a new relationship with my skin, with more patience, appreciation, and confidence.

🫶 I’m incredibly thankful for the providers who have taken such thoughtful care of me throughout this journey.

At 37, I’m excited to open a new chapter, feel more comfortable in my own skin, and give myself permission to explore things I once felt too self-conscious to try.

✨ Not an after. Just progress.

Along the many forking paths of life, I find myself undecided…not because I don’t know which path is right for me, but because I can imagine a life worth living down every one of them.

My struggle has never been choosing a direction: it is wanting to experience all the lives I might live, and all the versions of myself I might become ✨ by @mini_pho

choose yourself, but also choose the people who choose you 💖 by @mini_pho

I’ve struggled with really terrible self-esteem for most of my life. I carried so many insecurities from grade school with me well into adulthood, and for years I genuinely believed I could never look like the attractive guys I saw on social media.

These were just candid photos of me enjoying a drag performance, which is why seeing them felt so strange. I almost didn’t recognize myself. The photographer somehow captured something I had always wanted to see in myself but never could—a kind of light I didn’t think I possessed.

It reminded me of something someone once said: some things are meant to be experienced in motion, in real life. A photo or video can capture an image, but it can never fully capture the way someone feels to be around—their energy, warmth, presence, or light.

Maybe we spend too much time judging ourselves through still images, when so much of what makes us beautiful only exists in motion.
