Can I be honest? Visibility has never felt safe for me… until now, slowly but surely ✨

From a young age, I grew up in miss pageants and with that came a lot of visibility. But even then, I often felt misunderstood.

In school, I was often disliked.
People assumed I was stuck-up, and it was hard to build genuine friendships with people my own age.

Years later, someone apologized to me.
She told me she used to lie about me and even told people she had beaten me…
Then she said, “I never knew you were so kind.”

I was in shock.
That moment stayed with me.

At a young age, I also experienced sexual molestation.
And no matter how hard I tried to keep smiling…
visibility started to feel unsafe.

So I learned to stay in the background.
To withdraw.
To not be fully seen.

At 14, I gave my life to Christ.
But coming from a small island where everyone knows everything about you,
I was labeled as “the pageant girl.”

And that label didn’t come with grace.

Later, when I started worship dance in church,
I was told that leaders warned my youth pastor not to let me dance. They said I would “pollute” the altar.

Again…
visibility felt unsafe.

I thought I had healed.
But recently, I realized something…I’ve still been hiding.

Asking myself :
Who am I, really?
What will people say?
What will people do?

If I’m honest…
I’ve been showing up, but shrinking.
Present, but not fully myself.

Even dimming my beauty.
Even dimming my voice.

But this time…

I’m choosing differently.

I’m choosing to give myself permission to be seen.
This is me… learning to be visible again!

I share this because I believe in the strength of vulnerability giving others permission to be seen as we share our stories, so that someone else may be encouraged too.

And last but not least… there is no me without Him.

Sharing this experience with people I had never met before made it even more meaningful.
