What I saw in London, part 2 I think. National Gallery By necessity my visit was short and near closing time so at some level I only had time to think, I am seeing these amazing works I've seen reproductions of all my life, I'm seeing that amazing....and this one...try to slow enough for a detail and long for the long familiarity with related works I've seen hundreds of time at the Metropolitan at my own speed. In this case the ability to take a picture of a detail is welcome as an aide-memoire biggest surprise: Jan van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait is teeny -- of course it is.. ! But in my mind it was and is a monumental work @nationalgallery by @mira_schor

The 1981 Grey Art Gallery exhibition of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock works made a deep impression on me at the time. What stayed with me was that I took away from it then that Lee Krasner had understood abstraction earlier than Jackson Pollock. I'm not sure yet what I come away with from the current more comprehensive exhibition @metmuseum though that may be because I saw it in a state of exhaustion and jet-lag while overwhelmed by the charcoal grey walls and the dense crowds. The works of both are great, I have to go back, though I am not sure what time of day or weather would afford less of a crush of people. But I felt that perhaps, despite decades of familiarity, I-- that is, one--may still extract inspiration from both their work, perhaps from her work more than his, perhaps because his achievement, his all-over web of abstract filament, is too branded to dig out something new though many may try. Her work is more sculptural, closer to the earth, at once more related to other abstract artists of her time yet less branded #leekrasner #jacksonpollock by @mira_schor

My trip to England part 1. We landed in a fog so thick the pilots asked people to turn off all electronic devices because the plane needed all the wifi or electronic something ot other it could get 🫣. Next day first introduction to Mimosa House yellow frontage-- my happy color , a good sign. Seeing my tall painting done last winter begin to be installed in complex viewing situation that worked out really well. Also the first the British Museum, very nearby. Now I realize I saw amazing things but never found the Rosetta Stone or the Elgin Marbles. Can I cram a second visit into a busy last full day in London? @mimosahouselondon by @mira_schor
