I made a post last summer about climbing with a hunger for the top (it’s pinned on my profile). Sadly, this time I did not, in fact, compete with that hunger for the top, I actually climbed with fear. What I managed to do though, for the first time ever, is not kick myself down/wallow after not climbing my best. Self-empathy is not about being weak, it’s quite the opposite. Climbing (like any sport) is a lesson about how our performance on one training/competition/outside session is only a snapshot of our quality as an athlete. Of course, competitions are incredibly useful tools we use to track our progress and understand our weaknesses, but one failed competition, one isolated event, does not define us as an athlete, or even more important, as a person. What I am writing here might be nothing new to some people, but for me there’s always been a huge gap between what I rationally knew (all that i’m struggling to put into words here) and how it actually felt. I think what I gained-and for me it’s even more valuable than securing a place that I wished for- is I finally managed to have the emotional maturity to just enjoy the competition as it was, to take my performance as it was, and to move forward. I really don’t think this narrative of having more compassion towards yourself stops your from developing-as I do want to perform way better next time, and I’m motivated to put in the work with what I identified as issues-I just think it creates a better environment for growth. Thank you again for all your amazing support, that was also a big plus for me-it always is. Thank you @magazinul_cu_sepci for the personalised top. Check them out for prints, they are great people and the quality of the print is really good! (more colourful pictures incoming, to do the print justice) Thank you @naturalhighbucuresti (with a shoutout to @mnustiu) @frae @romaniaclimbingteam and the volunteers for the smooth way everything went and the efforts put forward in promoting this sport. Thank you @boldzholds for the amazing pictures(+the nice volumes you provided in the comp)! Congrats to all the impressive athletes on their performance! by @miranda_bouldering

I left the sound for you to hear how my kids cheer for each other and want each other to succeed 🩷 I am incredibly proud of all of them, and the amazing team dynamic they’ve built And of course of this girl 🩷 who has managed her first complex coordination move with a slippery hold, and made it look effortless!! @naturalhighbucuresti #fyp #bouldering #competition by @miranda_bouldering

First heel hook in a looong time :)) This session I wanted to enjoy my climbing and not only struggle, so I picked boulders to move on. I have to say, climbing with no grade expectation has sparked a lot of joy. Also I always think of @smaranda_marian when I listen to Hayley Williams ❤️ #bouldering #boulder #fyp @naturalhighbucuresti by @miranda_bouldering
