POSTS STORIES REELS

I would love to reintroduce myself

I'm Maxine and I am ✨loudly expressive✨. This trait has gotten me in a lot of trouble in the past, much of it "good trouble", but even good trouble can take its toll.

So as any rational person would do I decided to move across the country and start over. New place, new me!

Ehhhh

You can't out run yourself, but a new place can offer you new friends and experiences that can broaden your perspective if you let it. So I let it.

I make documentaries now! I called out my university for suppressing free speech on campus regarding Palestine during our Black Student Panel, which was scary AF but worth it. I got to go to a professional conference for photojournalism where I met some of the most talented and passionate storytellers on the planet (shout out to the @northernshortcourse)! The reason I even got to go was because I took a risk on a project and ended up winning an Excellence in Journalistic Storytelling award.

None of that could have happened if I wasn't being my "loudly expressive" self. So I have had to relearn to embrace my voice and discern between my intuition and my anxiety. So I'm going to start sharing work again because life is too short to keep hiding and not find your people. 💜

The most eye-catching adult cosplayers at @retrogamecon used fabric, cardboard, latex and creativity to bring their favorite anime and video game characters to life in #Syracuse.

Different cosplay competitions took place throughout the convention, focused on performance, craftsmanship, engineering and even speedy costume creation.

“Cosplaying is a mix of the joy of creating and problem solving,” said Lauren Wise, dressed as Orin the Red (slide 2). “It’s a way for us to share our passion with others.”

Dressed as R2D2, Jericho Fluno, 11, won first place in the 2024 @retrogamecon kids’ cosplay competition in #Syracuse on Sunday. 👾

“Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to win today,” Fluno said. “But R2D2 is my favorite character.”

Thirty-five kids aged 12 and younger dressed as their favorite characters from video games and movies at the convention’s 11th year.

So excited to be a photographer for the I made Rock N Roll Festival in Indianapolis! Much love to @ganggangculture, @forty5presents, and @imaderockandroll for putting this together 💜

For the last year I've been documenting the Black Punk and alternative scene across the country and to get to be a part of an event like this in Indianapolis truly feels like a homecoming. If you're in the area on Saturday you should come, I promise you are not going to want to miss this!
