I animate complex ideas for businesses. And also fun stuff for myself! #aftereffects #animation #vfx
POSTS STORIES REELS
Freshly rendered a new reel šŸŽ‰ Iā€™d be honored if you took a peek. Iā€™d also like to say hello to new followers! Iā€™m Mitch, a motion designer. šŸ‘‹ For the past three years Iā€™ve been navigating the freelance world, helping companies put their thoughts to pixels. I scale my projects, growing teams to the scope of the animation and find efficient ways to communicate ideas from brand to customer. Along the way, I offer thoughts, advice, and help to other artists and marketers about animation. If you ever want to chat, drop me a message! (I wonā€™t stop talking star wars, so thatā€™s always a good topic to start šŸš€) by @mitch.centers
More projection mapping fun for Halloween šŸŽƒ In my vibes, the Ahsoka show is the most seasonal Star Wars project (except for the Lego special, which is great in its own right). Take a look at what makes a stormtrooper helmet decay in front of your eyes. Happy Halloween! #animation #projectionmapping #starwars #ahsoka #halloween by @mitch.centers
The theme from this monthā€™s @motioncollabs was Solarpunk, and our goal was to be cinematic. With only a few weeks to concept and create (and for me it was more like 3 days), here is my contribution to our final 12 minute collaborative animation ā˜€ļø I chose to use cinema 4d to model, rig, and animate with a final pass through After Effects. by @mitch.centers
As a creative, I make it easier for others to bring their ideas to fruition. Working with OVER THE RHINE IMPROV, I had a fairly straightforward request to deliver a logo, but it needed flexibility for Improv Fest Cincyā€™s marketing campaign. So I built them a tool to make that final product. It has color changes, extrusions, and glass texture opacity rigged to be easily changeable. And now itā€™s on all of their stuff :) As someone who rarely works in physical graphic design, itā€™s always a pleasure to see my stuff off of computers. Speaking of which, Iā€™m gonna plug for them: If you are in Cincinnati this weekend, starting today, Improv Festival Cincy ā€˜26 begins. A little late to post, but this was summer in Japan! While most of the two months were in Kyoto, we ventured off into Mie prefecture. Then in September I made a short solo hike up Mt Fuji. (Half of it anyway) Loved it but man it was hot! Made new friends. Went to theme parks. Found good food. 10/10 will do again (maybe not summer for once!) by @mitch.centers
You hear that? Itā€™s the sound of bones rattling and pumpkins spice lattes brewing. Happy Spooktober! šŸŽƒ #halloween #october #spooktober #animation #aftereffects by @mitch.centers
While preparing to climb mt Fuji I watched tons of summiting videos. This is not one of them. I wish it was more climactic but I failed to climb this mountain I spent months preparing for. Ultimately the weather did not cooperate and I had to decide to descend. But I think the elements gave an experience thatā€™s unique! ā€œYou can make no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness that is lifeā€ - Cpt Jean Luc Picard. #mtfujišŸ—» #hiking #japan #travelling #mtfujijapan by @mitch.centers
Iā€™m working on a new thing to projection map šŸ”Ø Itā€™s definitely a work in progress since I still need to test it on my projector. Iā€™ll have to wrap this up when I return Stateside, right in time for a Halloween post. And my hot take is that the Ahsoka TV show is a good Halloween show. #wip #aftereffects #starwars #projectionmap #ahsoka by @mitch.centers
Hereā€™s the creative mess behind the dress! Personally, I find the design pre-production phase to be daunting. How could you possibly know what this animation should look like? Add to that my secret designerā€™s insecurity: I didnā€™t go to school for design. Concepting and design start as a hodgepodge of inspirations. Itā€™s where I discover the building blocks of the animation to come. And also gain the confidence to push my own designs forward. Let me show you the look book I made while researching the design of my Planet Spotting animation. Shout out to texturelabs.org and solarsystemscope.com for being great resource wells. #motiondesign #adobe #design #behindthescenes #astronomy by @mitch.centers
Getaway from the city into Mie Prefecture. We visited the Shima Spain Village, an accurate recreation of Spanish culture. Many off the beaten path prefectures have a representative Pokemon, this one Oshwatt. Got to try some Ise speciality Udon while here. (It was beefy!) Also visited were important Shinto inner and outer shrines of Ise, the Wedded Rocks, and Okage Yokocho Edo style shopping street. by @mitch.centers
Every great animated explainer starts from a storyboard āœ… I find that this stage of pre-production knocks out several birds at once: - Visual depiction accuracy gut check (we can go back to the experts to double-check the science). - Audio/animation testing transitions and timing to see how it will all work together. Where can we add more visual interest? - Hypes up everyone with an imagination for the final video! When I made this planet-spotting explainer, the previsualization phase made me realize where I needed to adjust the script and visuals. Certain images hung on too long. Some phrases didnā€™t sound natural when said out loud, or werenā€™t clear enough in the messaging. If I hadnā€™t done this phase first, I donā€™t think I would have ended up with a satisfying final product that told the story efficiently! #animation #science #behindthescenesšŸŽ¬ #aftereffects #motiondesign by @mitch.centers
