POSTS STORIES REELS

Happy grant announcement!!!🎨 This past spring I shared with you all a painting I did as the first part of a large series I am undertaking. The painting was inspired by a painting of roses I did for my parents when I was 15. Against all odds that painting is still hanging on the walls of my parents’ now ruined farmhouse in Iran (see actual photo of that wall in this post).

I’m very excited to announce that I am now a recipient of a ‘Creation Grant’ to support the creation of this entire series. I want to thank the Vermont Arts Council and Vermont Community Foundation for this generous grant! This grant will now enable me to make this important project the focus of my work in my studio in the coming year. I am very grateful and feel lucky to live in Vermont and this art-loving community! Thank you again @vtartscouncil and @vtcommfoundation for your incredible support!!

Please check my bio to see my website and to read the full story and learn more about this project undertaking.

I dedicate this art and poem to all children around the world who are caught in a war or any form of injustice or turbulence. 🕊️🌎

Swipe to read translation of poem which is shown in Persian calligraphy form in the body of the art.

Grateful to Vermont Arts Council for the very generous grant and for including my art bio on their website! Thank you also to Vermont Community Foundation as well as Vermont Arts Endowment in supporting the creation of my work-in-progress art series. This grant will enable me to create a deeply personal series of art exploring the loss of home shaped by 47 years of separation from my homeland.

Title: The Ever Evolving

Life is not linear and is fluid just like the water flowing in a river in this piece. My art always ‘evolves’ with it and sometimes it goes around pebbles and rocks and flows again. Here I am exploring use of new mix of mediums to bring more focus to a piece I did before.

Medium: acrylic, morakab, Ink pen, and copic on Paper and panel

8” X 10.5” X 1”

Poem in the body of poem by:
Mitra Samimi Urich

Translation:

How can one describe

the ever searching

the ever changing

the ever evolving

path of where you may find

that infinite space between

nothing and everything

Most of my art has a philosophical undertone inspired by my Persian and eastern roots as well as my life experiences here in the west. In this piece I have incorporated a poem by Rumi one of the poets and philosophers that I deeply admire.

Title: Two Worlds In One

Medium: acrylic, morakab ink and copic ink on Paper and panel

Size: 8” X 10.5” X 1”

Extract of a poem in the body of the art by Rumi

Here is the translation of the text in the body of the art:

Not a Christian or Jew

not Muslim, not Hindu

Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen.

Not any religion

or cultural system

I am not from the east

or the west, not out of the ocean

or up from the ground

not composed or elements at all

I do not exist

I am not an entity in this world

or the next

did not descend from

Adam and Eve or

any origin story. . . . .

first, last, outer, inner

only that breath breathing

human being

This is a second piece in the ‘illuminating Thoughts’ series ~ As an Iranian American artist and in a world that I have no control of, my studio becomes a place that gives me a sense of freedom to imagine, to create, and to speak.

Title: Behind The Iron Gates

Medium: Acrylic, Morakab ink, and copic ink on Paper panel

8” X 10.5” X 1”

Studio time ~ Some finished work and some more to come for this abstract grouping form for my ‘Illuminated Thoughts’ series - A slightly different approach but I am exploring and challenging myself to find ways of playing with different mix of mediums.

Stay tuned!
