Today marks the end of 23 years of Lufthansa A340-600 operations. LH419, the final flight, landed in Frankfurt this morning at 8:30 a.m. after arriving from Washington Dulles. Luckily, I had the chance to fly on one of these magnificent long boys to Washington last May, onboard D-AIHZ. A memory I’ll always be grateful for! Even though I never managed to capture that one perfect shot that makes me say, “This is it!”, I’m still happy to have some photos that remind me of this incredible aircraft. There was always something special about the A340-600. Its incredible length, the sound of its four engines, and the way it looked in Lufthansa’s colors made it an absolute icon in the sky. Seeing one take off or land was always a pleasure, and knowing that we won’t get to experience these moments much longer is genuinely sad. With the A346 leaving the fleet, we’re not just losing another aircraft type — we’re saying goodbye to a piece of aviation history. Four-engine jets are becoming increasingly rare, and with every retirement, the skies lose a little more of the variety that makes our hobby so special. I want to wish all DUS spotters the best of luck catching the remaining A346 flights before these beautiful aircraft head into storage in Teruel, Spain. Thank you, Airbus A340-600, for all the memories! It was a privilege to see you fly, and even more of a privilege to have flown on one of you. You may be leaving the skies, but you’ll never leave our memories. Farewell, Lufthansa A340-600. You will be deeply missed. 💙💛👋 ___________________________________________________ #a340600 #lufthansa #farewell #a346 #a340 ___________________________________________________ @lufthansaviews @lhtechnik @lufthansa @airbus ___________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero

Finally something bigger and special again! National Airlines visited us yesterday with their A330-200 to bring US staff back to the US, with a stopover in Powidz, Poland. Arriving two hours ahead of schedule yesterday morning in the darkness, despite the sunny weather at this time, we had to make the best of it and tried to capture the departure at around 11 o’clock in the evening. And what should I say? The results were better than I could have ever expected! So here you can see N828CA leaving the military apron, bound for Powidz! ___________________________________________________ Info: Aircraft: Airbus A330-243 Airline: National Airlines Reg.: N828CA Age: 14 Years MSN: 1279 ___________________________________________________ #stuttgartairport #nationalairlines #airbus #airbusa330 #planespotting @stuttgartairport @airbus @gonationalair ___________________________________________________ Photo date: 2026/10/09 ___________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero
Since this summer has been rather uneventful at my home airport, Stuttgart, it was a nice surprise to welcome Sola Air, a virtual airline from Sweden normally connecting Karlstad with Copenhagen. The Saab 340, operated by NyxAir, arrived on a charter flight from Örebro to Stuttgart then headed back to Karlstad after a short 30-minute turnaround, to resume its scheduled flights to Copenhagen. It was great to see a passenger Saab 340 back on our apron after quite some time! __________________________________________________ Info: Aircraft: Saab 340B Airline: Sola Air / Nyxair Reg.: ES-NSR Age: 35 Years MSN: 340B-221 __________________________________________________ @stuttgartairport @saab #solaair #saab #planespotter #stuttgartairoport #saab340 __________________________________________________ Photo date: 2026/10/07 __________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero
Farewell D-ABYG! Last Saturday, Lufthansa sent the second of a pair of Boeing 747-8s to the United States, where it will continue its story with the United States Air Force. The aircraft was flown to Marana Pinal Airpark, where it will be handed over to the USAF. D-ABYG had been serving Lufthansa since March 2013. After almost 14 years with the airline, D-ABYG — named after my home state, Baden-Württemberg — operated its final flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt on 31 August and was later neutralised. So, here you can see D-ABYG banking out of Frankfurt one last time last Saturday. A little premiere for me during my short visit to Lisbon Airport a few days ago: This was the first time I captured the Embraer C-390. So, here you can see the C-390, operated by the Portuguese Air Force, lining up for Runway 02. ___________________________________________________ Info: Aircraft: Embraer C-390 Millennium Airline: Portugal - Air Force Reg.: 26901 Age: 4 Years MSN: 39000011 ___________________________________________________ #portugalairforce #embraerc390 #planespotting #military #lisbonairport ___________________________________________________ Photo date: 2026/08/11 ___________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero
A short three-hour visit to Lisbon Airport, which worked out quite well. TAAG Angola Airlines’ D2-TEI sailing into Lisbon in perfect #brüllerlicht two days ago. Originally scheduled to land after sunset, its punctual arrival—25 minutes ahead of schedule—made these pictures possible. Just five minutes later, a diverted Ryanair UK flight caused further delays, as the Ryanair aircraft was given priority and all other aircraft had to hold for around 20 minutes. I’m quite happy that everything worked out so well! :) ___________________________________________________ Info: Aircraft: Boeing 777-3M2(ER) Airline: TAAG Angola Airlines Reg.: D2-TEI Age: 12 Years MSN: 43252 ___________________________________________________ #taagangolaairlines #lisbonairport #boeing777 #planespotting ___________________________________________________ Photo date: 2026/08/11 ___________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero

Even though we had some bad luck with the clouds before taking this picture, it all worked out quite well in the end. With a bit of luck, the sun came out at exactly the right moment. ____________________________________________________ Info: Aircraft: Boeing KC135R Stratotanker Airline: United States - US Air Force Reg.: 62-3500 Age: 62 Years MSN: 18483 ____________________________________________________ #stuttgartairport #military #boeingkc135 #tanker #planespotting ____________________________________________________ Photo date: 2026/07/13 ____________________________________________________ by @mkg.aero
