✨️Life update ✨

Those of you who follow my stories (or lack of them lately) know how thrilled I was to be working at Liberty Books as a Publishing Manager. Sadly, this chapter has come to an end. I never imagined I would leave this soon, but life happens.

It honestly took me over two months to come to terms with it lol. Yes, I’ve been casually gallivanting around Bahria Town, unemployed but surprisingly at peace… though I do miss the work.

Now that I’m well-rested, it feels like the right time to get back to it.

The past 18 months at Liberty Publishing were nothing short of a dream… with a few nightmares as well, if I’m being honest 😅 But your girl worked on 45 books across fiction, non-fiction, and classics (and a couple more I edited that are still in the publishing pipeline). Whaaaatttt!! 📚✨️

Yes, I’m extremely proud of this, and I will mention it every chance I get. So now is your cue to unfollow if you don’t want to keep seeing this 😌

The best part was building relationships with incredible Pakistani authors and being part of book launches.
I also finally got to launch their Instagram page, which was something I had been wanting to do for a long time. My baby, @libertypublishingofficial, is growing, and the team is doing such a great job with it. Forever grateful to you guys 🤩

More than anything, it’s the stories I worked on that I’ll carry with me [P.S. the reel shows only a few of the ones I worked on].

To the team, the authors, and everyone who trusted me with their work—thank you. Truly.

Forever a fan. Forever rooting for you ✨

Now onto the next chapter 🤍

I’m open to freelance editing, manuscript consulting, contract and royalty consulting, and remote opportunities.

If you’re working on something and need a second set of eyes, my DMs are open.

In short, give me work so I can buy a bookshelf, people!! Kbye 🫠✨️

13th August 2024 — the day I joined Liberty Books as Publishing Manager.
It’s been a whole year! How has it been a year already? 🤯

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d work in publishing. I always wanted to, but I never dared to imagine it… hello, imposter syndrome (we’ve all been there).

I still remember jumping around in excitement when I got the call from HR: I’d be working at Liberty Books. LIBERTY BOOKS!!! If you know me, you know how much I love reading. Even in a reading slump, I’d still buy books I wanted to read “later” and Liberty Books was always my first stop.

But once I joined… the imposter syndrome hit with full force 😬 How was I going to be a manager when I could barely manage myself? The more I learned about the responsibilities, the more I panicked. I didn’t think I’d last three months.

Thankfully, my incredible predecessor, Ella Hussain, trained me for a month — showing me the ropes, encouraging me, and motivating me every step of the way. I’ll always be grateful 💛

Still, my first day without Ella? Pure panic 😂 But my amazing team — Iman Saleem (Publishing Coordinator), Ozair Soomro (Designer), and my then-sub-editor Eraj Rasheed — made it so much easier. When Eraj left for bigger, better things (always proud!), Marium Hassan joined as sub-editor and blended in so seamlessly it felt like she’d always been with us.

I couldn’t have asked for a more talented, supportive team. Thank you for always having my back and making it a joy to be your manager.

This role has changed me in ways I didn’t expect... in the best way. It’s helped me face imposter syndrome head-on (okay, there are still traces 👀), made me more confident, taught me to stand my ground, protect my team and our authors fiercely, say NO loudly when needed, and accept that sometimes losing a battle is okay.

Here’s to more books, more growth, and more moments that make me grateful I took this leap. 📚✨

September in 30-ish seconds because apparently that’s all the attention span we all have now 😂

How did I manage to take a few seconds of video every single day?! 📸✨

I didn’t 🤭

I forgot some days, so I added a few older and recent clips to fill in the gaps!

So technically… September-ish 😅🤎

Did September flew by for you guys too? And how are we already in the mid of October!!!

Imagine discovering a mysterious silk cloth covered in cryptic symbols among your old family belongings. What would you do? Naturally, you'd try everything you could to uncover its secrets.

That's exactly what Marni, a 12-year-old girl, does when she discovers the silk cloth and a letter among her late mother's belongings. She secretly leaves home and sets off on a journey along the Silk Route, hoping to uncover the secrets behind the mysterious symbols.

Little does she know that the cloth has unleashed evil demons and jinns, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on it.

Saniya Chughtai’s 'The Rise of the Energy Warriors: Marni Khan and the Ancient Silk Route' is a captivating adventure that explores courage, identity, and the hidden bonds that shape us.

One of my favourite little touches? The book doesn't end with the story! There's a collection of recipes, a shopping list, places to visit, and foods to try at the end, making the whole reading experience feel like an invitation to explore the world of the Silk Route yourself.

Thank you, Saniya, for sending me a copy of this wonderful adventure! ❤️📚

Wait, reading three books at once?! Who am I? 😂

Apparently, one book at a time was getting too easy 📚😅

Here’s what’s on my current stack:

✨ A fantasy adventure following 11-year-old Marni as she uncovers ancient secrets along the Silk Route
🗡️ A sharp-witted dark comedy about a woman seeking revenge on her wealthy family—one relative at a time
🕊️ A poignant memoir on navigating loss and finding a way through grief

Surprisingly, juggling three genres at once is actually working for me. Who knew?!

I’m almost done with two of them and can’t wait to share my reviews soon 📚☕️

Are you a one-book-at-a-time reader, or do you stack your TBR like this too?

No plot twists here 😍

One cup at a time, one questionable life decision at a time. I’ll always choose coffee 🥰☕️

You thought I forgot about this? You are absolutely right 😂📚

But hey! September isn’t over for a few more hours, and there are still plenty of things a book lover definitely needs.

So here’s Part 2 of the gift guide—with more books, more bookish goodies, and a couple of slightly questionable suggestions. 👀

What did I miss? Tell me your favourite bookish gift in the comments!

Since it’s my birthday month, I thought I’d celebrate the only way that makes sense around here: by putting together a little wishlist… ahem, I mean, gift guide! 👀🎁

If you’re shopping for the book-obsessed person in your life (or subtly sending hints about what you would like 😏), here are a few ideas to make their bookish hearts very, very happy ☕📖

Because “they have enough books” is simply not a phrase we recognise around here 😌📚

Save this for your next gift emergency—and tell me: what bookish gift would you love to receive?

There’s something special about seeing a book come alive beyond the pages. 💙📚

Had a great time at the launch of "Healing in the Shadow of Loss" by Saira Sheikh at Liberty Books.

I was fortunate to be involved in the publication process for this book during my time at Liberty Books, but couldn’t see it through to completion. So it was such a joy to finally celebrate its release. And, of course, to finally meet Saira and share a little bookish moment together. ✨

Grief is something we all experience, yet it’s still a conversation we often struggle to have. Books like this create a space to talk about loss, make sense of it, and remind us that grief doesn’t have to be navigated alone. I love that 'Healing in the Shadow of Loss' is opening up a conversation that is so deeply needed. 💙

Also, can we just take a moment for that cover? 😍

Here’s to more books, more Pakistani authors, and more reasons to gather around stories. ☕📖

How Pakistani is your bookshelf? 📚

From chilling folk horrors and tense political thrillers, to stories of love, loss, identity, history, class, and belonging—Pakistani authors have given us so many worlds to get lost in.

Here are a few authors worth adding to your TBR. 🇵🇰

How many have you read—and who would you add to this list?

*Screaming!!*

Guyssss 🥹🥹😭😭 My first ever proper bookshelf 🥰 470 reasons to never leave the house.

Welcome to my happy place. 🕊️

Do we think I can make it to 500 by the end of the year? 🙈

I was done today 🫠 So I made myself remember the good.

These small moments from this weekend helped ✨

Be gentle with yourself. You deserve it.
