In all seriousness: clients and agencies need to see exactly what you look like right now. You don’t need a professional studio setup to do this right. All it takes is a plain wall, natural window light, simple form-fitting clothing, and little to no makeup.

Clients want to see your face without the filters, your current hair length, and your actual body proportions. Sending heavily edited or outdated photos is the easiest way to lose trust with casting directors.

I put more tips just like this into my modeling guide. It’s honestly everything I wish I had known when I was first starting out. If you want a copy, just comment "GUIDE" and I'll send it straight to your inbox. by @katya.gribanova

A day in my life as a model ✨

Spending the day on set for QVC last week. It’s always a blast but I wanted to share a little reminder that not every single day looks like this. What most people don’t see is everything that happens before you ever step foot on set—the auditions, the self-tapes, the endless waiting, and the rejections.

Shoot days are the ultimate payoff for all that heavy behind-the-scenes work that nobody really talks about. Taking you along for the ride in today’s vlog! 🤍 by @katya.gribanova

Starting to work as a model means you’re starting a business, whether you think of it that way or not. You have income, and you have your business expenses, aka tax write-offs. Keeping them separate from your personal money is just the right way to do it.

I have an LLC, a business checking account, and a business credit card, but here’s the thing: you don’t actually need an LLC to take deductions. A lot of models think you need an LLC to write things off, that’s not true. An LLC doesn’t change your taxes, it gives you limited liability, meaning it protects your personal assets if the business gets sued. That’s literally the main reason people form one.

The reason people talk about tax savings is because eventually the move is electing S-corp status, but that’s a whole separate conversation, and you need to be making enough profit for it to actually be worth the cost and complexity.

So if you’re just starting out, I’d actually hold off on forming an LLC until it makes sense. But I’d absolutely open a separate bank account for your modeling income.

Let me know if you have any questions/ideas for future videos. For more modeling tips check out my @modelinguide. Comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send the details straight to your inbox. by @katya.gribanova

Can we talk about avail checks for a second?

When your agent sends one, that is not a “get to it later” email. There is almost always a casting director or client waiting on the other side of that email, and a delayed response can easily mean a missed opportunity.

I get it, life happens. You’re driving, you’re at a shoot, you’re just not glued to your phone. But a quick, immediate confirmation like “I’m available, thank you!” gives your agency exactly what they need to lock it in. by @katya.gribanova
