Very honored to be featured in Leo Weekly’s Limelight series this week! I’m proud to be part of the growing film industry here in Louisville and was excited to talk about it, along with a little of my personal journey and design process. I’ve got the full article linked in my bio. Thanks for thinking of me @c._.stultz and @leoweekly 🎉 ** I also want to acknowledge I am certainly not the only costume designer behind Louisville’s film scene! We have many talented costumers here that I consider great friends and coworkers. 🩷 #costumedesigner #kentuckyfilm #502film #leoweekly by @mollya.morgan
Amber Alert (feature), 2024 Amber Alert takes place over one day, so my challenge was to create singular looks that represented each character and their role in the story. For Hayden’s character Jaq, we wanted to amplify this idea of her humanity, her experience with motherhood, and her nurturing spirit. I loved this soft neutral nude tone for her, and we actually hand dyed white shirts to get this exact shade. I see Tyler’s Shane as a grounding force in the story, as well as someone who experiences growth, and earthy green lends well to both of those facets. Having them both in calm neutrals signals safety and warmth, people that we as an audience can trust. Amber Alert is available to rent on Amazon Prime and on Apple TV. Carolina Caroline is in theaters today! Making this movie was like all the reasons I wanted to work on movies my whole life. 💙❤️ I assisted @annieandhannah and I got to build a custom jacket for Samara. Saw a lotttttt of Kentucky, from suites of the Brown Hotel to the Rustic Frog strip joint. A first time in both for me! One of my besties @rjgordon1 came and hung out with me on one of our all-nighters to be an extra. This was such a good one and I’m just so proud I was part of it. EVERYONE GO SEE IT!!! Thank you @the_good_reverend13 for bringing this gem to Kentucky First two photos: @stevesquall @magnoliapics Fifth photo: @dryzner #carolinacaroline #assistantcostumedesigner #kentuckyfilm #502film by @mollya.morgan
Something wicked this way comes…… Designing costumes for Macbeth for the Kentucky Shakespeare parks tour was such a fun challenge. When director Crystian Wiltshire and I met up, the idea we kept circling was that we wanted the cast to look super cool, and we also needed to keep the looks on the minimalistic side, as they would be traveling all over the state to parks and schools for the next 3 months. Reading Macbeth again, I couldn’t help but make a connection to Anakin Skywalker’s journey in Star Wars— the chosen one who let greed and power take him over and destroy him. I loved researching the Star Wars world for inspiration, and I think it blended so well with Crystian’s edit of the script. A year ago this time I was *ear*-deep in building six human-size corns for Carved! I got to ACD with @ruckusaurus and when she told me about this idea, I brainstormed the pattern for this 4-panel hand-stuffed and quilted monstrosity. I think I probably went through 100 needles on my machine. But it was so fun to take on a big project like this and see it through to the end. Some folks have asked me “will you make me a corn to wear for Halloween?” And the answer is for $7,000, yes. 💛🌽💛🌽💛🌽💛🌽💛🌽💛 Shoutout to @faylakarkus @sophiestyles_something for helping stuff and plump these bad boys!! Carved is out now on Hulu! #carved #hulu #costumedesign #corncostume #halloween by @mollya.morgan
Send this to the girlies you wanna learn how to sew with! full directions below ⬇️ 🧵✨ This was such a rewarding experience, and the best part? It’s totally doable, even if you’re new to sewing! Here’s a step-by-step breakdown in case you want to make your own. Materials You’ll Need: - Fabric of your choice (cotton works great!) - Matching thread 🎨 - A sewing pattern (we found ours online!) 📏 - Fabric scissors ✂️ - Pins or clips 📌 - Measuring tape 📏 - An iron - Sewing machine (or you can hand-sew if you’re up for a challenge!) 🧶 Step 1: Pick Your Fabric & Pattern We started with a trip to *JoAnn Fabrics* and had the best time choosing adorable patterns and coordinating thread. When selecting fabric, consider a sturdy but comfortable material—cotton, linen, or canvas work well for aprons. Step 2: Cut Out Your Pattern & Fabric After printing our apron pattern, we carefully cut it out and pinned it to our fabric. Then, we cut out each piece, making sure to follow the grain of the fabric for a nice, even look. ✂️ Step 3: Iron & Prep Your Pieces Before sewing, we ironed everything to remove creases and make it easier to work with. This step is key for a polished finish! Step 4: Start Sewing! We sewed the main apron body first, followed by the straps and pockets. If your pattern includes a lining, sew that in before attaching the straps. Take your time with this part—small, even stitches make all the difference! 🧵 Step 5: Add Embellishments (Optional) I wanted to add a personal touch, so I cut out little vegetable shapes from extra fabric and stitched them onto my apron. 🥕🍅 You can do something similar with embroidery, lace, or fabric paint! Step 6: Final Touches & Admire Your Work! After a few nights of sewing, our aprons were complete—and they turned out SO cute! 😍 #HandmadeWithLove #SewingProject #DIYApron #SewMuchFun #Sewist #CraftingTime #MadeWithLove #CreativeJourney #SewingCommunity #ApronGoals #SewEasy #FabricFun #JoAnnFabrics #SewingForBeginners by @mollya.morgan

Deeper Well has been on repeat this year! Thank you @spaceykacey for the comfort and inspiration I’ve found in your album 💚 ** Quilt purists worry not, this was an unfinished quilt topper found in a sewing room pile. I didn’t deconstruct a good quilt. 😌 #kaceymusgraves #deeperwell #quiltdress #imadethis #sewing by @mollya.morgan
The Love Hunt (feature), 2023 Starring: Scout Taylor Compton @undertheseascout , Brock Yurich @brockyurich , Sterling Beaumon, Layla Cushman, Phoenix Gilmore, Lisa Thornhill Director: @sam_irvin_director Director of photography: Michael Givens Production designer: Elizabeth Rallis Costume designer: @mollya.morgan Hair and make up designer: @andreaahlmua Line producer: @ashlasoter Producers: @reeloneentertainment @stargazerfilms How fun it was dressing Scout and Brock!!! Since the movie revolved around a treasure hunt, I wanted to keep Scout in rich jewel tones, incorporating more cozy plaids into her look as she fell both for her quaint hometown and Brock’s character Tom. Brock’s look remained rugged throughout, but started muted and gained color as his feelings developed. 🥰 I had the best help from @lit.tle.designs my ACD extraordinaire! ❤️❤️ You can watch The Love Hunt on Peacock and Amazon Frevee 📺 #TheLoveHunt #costumedeisgner #kentuckyfilm #502film by @mollya.morgan
