Inspired by musical effects, “NEXTEFX” has been a central series in Mon’s practice since 2009. Through immersive environments that surround the viewer with painting, the series explores the experience of perceiving murals as if they were sound. In this installation, while two other works in the hotel are set against the skies of primordial time (501) and midday (601), this work unfolds across two rooms: Dusk and Dawn. Inspired by the vitality of plants and the energy of blooming, the paintings evoke the transitional moments of evening and morning skies. The lines have become softer and more fluid, incorporating subtle fluctuations and areas of open space that invite the viewer’s imagination.
Lying on a bed and becoming enveloped by murals that shift with the changing light, the experience unfolds as a form of stay-based art—one that evokes calmness and a sense of familiarity rather than strong stimulation. Rooted in live painting and club culture, the method combines large-scale murals with controlled lighting. The compositions are constructed to operate across multiple perspectives, forming a structure in which new discoveries continue to emerge over time—an experience that deepens through longer stays within the space. Through this process, the work invites a gentle reorganization of the rhythms of thought and emotion.
