A little glimpse into a story that’s been at the heart of my work lately. The Siddis, their quilts, their heritage have stitched themselves into my own journey. This project, The Shape of Remembering, has been shaping how I see art, heritage, and the ways we hold on to memory. Here’s a tiny trailer—an ode to the incredible Siddi women whose hands and stories you’ll see here. This is a work in progress, but i wanted to share this bit with all of you. Special thanks to @uumhhmm for rendering multiple edits of this video, and @jedimasternayan for his help with the shoot. #documentaryphotography #documentary by @monotonesandblurs
The Colour of Saudade is Blue, a project by @monotonesandblurs made during the ‘Tell a story’ workshop with @indrajitkhambe . Read below about her project How do you express something you don’t understand? How do you express something you are scared to explore? How do you create images from thoughts, emotions and feelings that are tangled in ways that cannot be explained? This project led me into a journey through all these questions. I lost my father about three years back, and while the world has moved, sometimes it deeply feels that life is exactly where it was the last time I saw him. The Colour of Saudade is Blue is an exploration of a daughter’s grief, my grief for my father. The project started as an exploration of the longing felt after his passing away, and the senses of smell, touch, sight that still helps me feel his presence closeby. One of my favourite things to do around Baba was wear his shirts, kurtas and sweaters. To me it always smelled of comfort and love. It is this that became the language of expression for my grief, his clothes, things he loved wearing, things he loved carrying, things in which I love carrying him forward. This is an ongoing body of work that seeks to change as grief changes forms, it is a daughter’s way of sitting with everything that lingers and is left behind. It is a way of feeling a fathers presence even in his absence. To me, if grief had a colour it would be the blue, sometimes the dark deep blue of night, heavy with emotions and sometimes the dawnish blue full of all the hope and joy. This project is a meandering of memories, moments where his presence is felt, and moments where it is missed. #findyourcreativevoice #photographyworkshop by @monotonesandblurs
Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing a selection of final projects created by residents from past seasons of Resting Academy — works shaped through time, reflection, experimentation, and conversation. Day 7 features Parboni Bose from our last batch, Season iii. —————————————————————————————————— Parboni Bose|Out of the Ash Witchcraft was hung in History Emily Dickinson 1583 Witchcraft was hung in History, But History and I Find all the Witchcraft that we need Around us, every Day— Out of the Ash is a photo project suspending itself between fiction, folklore, and reality. Rooted in contemporary cases of witch hunting in Bengal, this project is a fictional and visual response to the persistence of superstition within lived reality. The work explores the disbelief that something seemingly mythical can continue to shape violence, fear, and social exclusion in the present. Through constructed and atmospheric imagery, the project traces how accusation and collective memory transform women into figures that exist somewhere between person, rumor, and apparition. ——————————————————————————————————— Applications for Season IV are now open Please follow the link in our bio for more details.
