I don’t know who these Lawyer Moms Who Care are (I have my suspicions) but regardless thank you, it means so much to get these little pick me ups and to be reminded that fighting for vulnerable people, doing good in the world, and demanding due process for everyone is important work. by @motheratlaw

It’s not always easy to pursue activities outside of lawyering, but it’s oh so necessary. Based upon my calculations this could likely be my 50th synchro/precision competition. Since I can’t say for sure I’ve decided to just pretend it is. Congrats to all my teammates on a good skate and a silver medal. #figureskatinglife #iceskating⛸ #lawyersofinstagram #synchro #wisconsinedge by @motheratlaw

Went to the #somashow by the incredible @jennifer_espenscheid. Art is life, and I’ve said it before if you are a foreign national artist, there’s a visa for that. #immigration #immigrants #artistsofinstagram #visa by @motheratlaw

Yesterday I had the privilege of hanging out at No Instructions art gallery in Milwaukee enjoying the paintings by artist Shane McAdams. Shane is a local Milwaukee artist, Milwaukee has incredible artists, but not all are originally from Milwaukee. Art, by its very nature, has no boundaries and knows no country but is enhanced by the exchange of ideas and experiences of the artist. Immigrant artists are an important contribution to our arts communities. @no_instructs #immigration #immigrationlawyer #artist #lawyersofinstagram #visa by @motheratlaw

I would like to yell this from the rooftops on the daily basis. If you qualify to become a US citizen file for citizenship. There are way too many benefits to being a citizen to leave this out there unaccessed. Especially as we age the benefits become even more important. But beyond that you should have a say and how leadership is using your tax dollars and making decisions on behalf of your family, why wouldn’t you want the opportunity to have a say?#immigration #immigrationlawyer #citizenship #knowyourrights #superpowers by @motheratlaw

Sometimes we have to go back to basics when we are in the midst of chaos. Despite everything that’s happening, all of the craziness, and the fear; the only real thing that allows us to continue to do the work that we do and get the benefits that people are qualified to receive is to do good work. And by good work, I mean Doing the job that is required of us by investigating, being persistent, timely, and anything else that will protect those that we serve. #immigration #immigrationattorney #knowyourrights #greencard #immigrationlawyer by @motheratlaw

Yesterday started at 4:30 a.m. I caught an early flight to Phoenix for a hearing I already knew wouldn’t go my way. There was a jurisdictional issue — the judge didn’t have the authority to do what I was asking for, which was to get my client released. I knew that walking in. Still, I went, because showing up matters.

Between meeting with my client to break the news that the judge’s hands were tied and the start of the hearing, I went back to my car to check emails and make a few calls. That’s when I saw it — my client had been granted a Stay of Deportation. A small but significant win. One that changes the trajectory, opens doors, keeps hope alive.

When I told her, she didn’t fully understand the legal nuances, but she understood enough. She was grateful — grateful that I came, grateful for the hugs, grateful that someone was still fighting for her.

Then I got back on a plane, landed home at 1 a.m., exhausted but proud. Just another day’s work — but one that reminded me why I do this.

My take on the shit show of chaos taking place this weekend due to incompetence of those in charge. #immigration #foreinstudents #medicalworkers #h1b #lawyersofinstagram by @motheratlaw

✨ Honored ✨

Tonight, I had the privilege of attending the Good Trouble Gala hosted by the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. In these uncertain times, knowing there are warriors out there tirelessly fighting for justice, equity, and our rights brings me solace.

I feel honored to be in the company of like minded people, especially the warriors @chicagocivilrights, and safe in knowing that I was surrounded by good company, seeking good trouble. 💜 Thank you!
