We are honoured to welcome Chazz Balkwill to Mountainside Art Gallery. Chazz’s paintings capture the spirit of Northern Ontario through shifting skies, rugged shorelines, and weather-shaped trees. Working in oil, his semi-impressionistic landscapes explore the quiet drama of seasonal change — storms rolling in, light breaking across water, and the stillness that follows. His work is both powerful and contemplative, guiding the viewer through vast skies and grounded forms toward what feels most essential in the land. Chazz will be joining us at the gallery for a Meet the Artist event on February 13 & 14 from 11–4. We invite you to come experience the work in person and meet the artist behind these striking new paintings. by @mountainsidegalleryinc
As we step into a new year at Mountainside Gallery, Maria is thrilled to welcome a lineup of incredible new artists whose work will shape and inspire our 2026 season.

We cannot wait for you to meet them all — and today, we’re beginning with our first featured artist, Petra.
Petra is a Hamilton-based visual artist whose work explores the delicate tension between the urban landscape and the natural world. Using paint, ink, and graphite, she investigates roots, botanicals, vegetation, and the quiet emotional resonance of fading and hardy flowers. Her layered compositions hold both fragility and strength — a duality that defines much of her practice.
With a background in graphic design, fashion illustration, fine art, and art education (Fanshawe College + Concordia University), Petra brings decades of creative expertise as a designer, art director, painter, and instructor. Exhibiting since 2004, her current interests centre on environmental awareness, contemporary art, and the spiritual connection we share with nature.
We’re honoured to welcome Petra into the gallery family — and excited for you to experience her work in person. Come on by to the gallery or find her work on our website (link in bio)

Prime Minister Carney and Premier Ford launch new action plan to protect workers from tariffs and strengthen Ontario industries October 21, 2026 Ottawa, Ontario The world is changing rapidly. In the face of U.S. tariffs and growing global uncertainty, Canada is focused on what we can control. We are building our strength at home, diversifying our trading relationships abroad, and making strategic investments to build a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy. Ontario is crucial to Canada’s industrial economy. The province has world-class automotive and steel industries and vast deposits of critical minerals. It has the workers, expertise, and resources to drive Canada’s economic transformation. By working together, the federal and provincial governments are protecting good jobs, attracting investment, and ensuring Ontario’s industries remain competitive. To that end, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, today announced investments of $8.7 billion and new measures to strengthen strategic industries, support workers and businesses impacted by U.S. tariffs, and drive long-term economic growth. Through this new action plan, the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario will: Protect Ontario’s steel industry by: • Establishing a new Joint Steel Action Fund, with five-year funding commitments of $3.55 billion from Canada and $1.67 billion from Ontario to diversify production, prepare Canadian steel firms to support emerging and growing Canadian industries such as defence, advanced manufacturing and energy and trade infrastructure, and open up new overseas markets for Canadian steel. • Leveraging the Buy Canadian Policy and the Buy Ontario Policy to prioritize Canadian steel in public procurement and strengthen domestic demand. • Strengthening protections against foreign steel dumping and unfair subsidising through enhanced enforcement by the Canada Border Services Agency and tighter trade remedy practices and compliance measures. • Establishing a Canada-Ontario Steel Task Force to provide strategic advice and guidance on the implementation of measures to support the steel sector and improve its competitive by @mountainsidegalleryinc

Combining her passion for art with entrepreneurship and a commitment to personalized service, Maria has created a business that reflects her desire to make a meaningful contribution to her community. She is actively involved in every aspect of the gallery, from communicating with clients and preparing artist biographies to organizing workshops, presenting artwork in clients’ homes, and nurturing relationships with artists and collectors. Rather than simply overseeing the business, Maria takes a hands-on approach, ensuring that both artists and customers feel valued, supported, and connected. For Maria, Mountainside Gallery is more than a place to buy art. It is a space where creativity is encouraged, artistic talent is celebrated, and meaningful connections are made through the shared experience of art. by @mountainsidegalleryinc
