ESEA voices don’t need permission to take up space. We need ground to grow in, so we’re changing the soil ourselves. My heart’s work, @movinggroundscollective 🌱 Screen acting workshops that close the gap between craft and industry. Theatre, film and TV that put our stories first, from reimagined classics like Romeo and Juliet in Kathmandu Valley to new, original ESEA stories. Follow along as we change the soil, one workshop and one production at a time. Next step: building our team #ESEA #ESEAactors #ESEAcreatives #CommunityFounder #MovingGroundsCollective by @movinggroundscollective

“I came to theory because I was hurting.” bell hooks didn’t come to ideas because she was clever. She came to them because she was in pain, and found in theory a place to heal. That’s what practice is. It starts from the hurt and does something with it. Full essay on YouTube, link in bio. #bellhooks #Healing #Theory #VideoEssay #carrierbagreads by @movinggroundscollective
Growing up in a Chinese household, I was taught that love meant sacrificing yourself. Nobody said it out loud. What I want to unlearn is the idea that love only counts if I disappear inside it. What’s inside “How to Advocate for Yourself in a System Not Built for You” with @mildredyuan 1. Understand your audience and network 2. Foreground the human first: how you want to be seen, and pitching yourself to agents, casting directors, directors and producers 3. Use your agent as one of many tools in your toolbox: briefing them, keeping them supplied, pushing back Then live pitches and Q&A. Bring a pitch email or a one-minute verbal pitch, and get feedback from Mildred in front of the group, so everyone learns. Sunday 15 November, 2–5pm, on Zoom Made for ESEA actors, open to all Audit £40 · Access £50 · Participate £60 (10 places only) Bring a friend: book two tickets together and you each get 25% off. Thinking about the Global Talent visa but not sure where to start? 🎭 Moving Grounds Collective presents Global Talent Visa: Demystifying the Stage 1 Endorsement Application for Theatre Practitioners, a 90-minute online workshop with theatre director, producer and translator Valerie Mo (she/they), founder of whim! theatre. Valerie moved to the UK in 2023 for her MFA and got her Global Talent visa (Exceptional Promise) in March 2026, so she knows the process well and went through it recently. She’ll walk you through: ✦ Exceptional Promise or Exceptional Talent: which route fits you ✦ Who to ask for your three letters of support, and how to brief them ✦ Which evidence counts and which doesn’t (no, you don’t need payslips 👀) ✦ How to choose your 10 pieces of evidence You’ll see redacted samples from Valerie’s own successful application, anonymised examples of applications that were approved and refused, and you can opt in to a live review of your draft. You can also send questions in advance or anonymously. For international directors, performers, writers, designers, producers and stage managers in the UK (or planning to come), especially recent grads and anyone on a Graduate visa. 🗓 Sat 12 December, 11:00–12:30 GMT 💻 Online, on Google Meet (not recorded) 🎟 Sliding scale £15 / £20 / £25 / £30, pay what you can (only 5 tickets at £15) Book via the link in bio 🔗 Facilitated by @valerie.mooo | Produced by @shannonyuenn Practical guidance from lived experience, not legal or immigration advice. #GlobalTalentVisa #UKTheatre #ESEAartists #TheatreMakers #ArtsCouncilEngland InternationalArtists LondonTheatre FringeTheatre MovingGroundsCollective by @movinggroundscollective
What actually happens in a three-hour session with @mildredyuan? She explains it herself 👆 The industry wasn’t built with ESEA actors in mind, so we have to work smarter. In “How to Advocate for Yourself in a System Not Built for You”, talent agent and coach Mildred Yuan walks you through: 🎯 Understanding your audience and your network 🫶 Putting the human first: how you want to be seen, and how to pitch yourself to agents, casting directors, directors and producers 🧰 Using your agent as one tool among many: briefing them, keeping them supplied, and pushing back Then it’s live pitches with feedback from Mildred, followed by a Q&A. Bring a pitch email you’d like reviewed (to an agent, a casting director or a producer) OR a verbal pitch of up to a minute, like your answer to “Tell me about yourself.” Mildred spent 10+ years at United Agents, is a current BAFTA voting member and co-founded the PMA Diverse Squad. You’re in good hands. 🗓 Sun 15 Nov, 2–5pm GMT, online 🎟 Audit £40 · Access £50 · Participate £60 (only 10 pitch spots) 👯 Book two tickets together and you each get 25% off 💛 5% of every ticket goes to our scholarship fund for ESEA actors on low incomes Made for ESEA actors, open to all.
