POSTS STORIES REELS

Just back from a wonderful week in the gorgeous sun-drenched Spanish town of La Villajoyosa 🌞

Haven’t posted on here much over the last year or so but wanted to share this spot I managed to find a few records in 😬

Literally 30 seconds walk from our AirBnB, we passed the above pictured shop everyday, and everyday it was closed - I presumed shut down and out of business for good. Had no idea what it sold as the shutters were down but I loved the signage so took some photos.

Then on the Thursday it was open! 😃

Various homemade notes were stuck on the walls around the entrance, along with secondhand clothes and items of bric-a-brac propped up under the window. Exactly the sort of place I’m straight in to investigate further! 😆

Pretty much the first thing I see is another little hand-drawn sign saying “DISCOS DE VINILO - 1 EURO”. Despite being extremely limited with my Spanish it wasn’t particularly hard to figure out!

Must have been about 50 albums in a box under the counter, first few being the usual James Last and Ray Conniff. But then I pull out a random Roots Reggae 12”, then a Fania All Stars album and some interesting looking Spanish albums. Ended up buying 12 records for the equivalent of around 80p each, which is cheaper than 95% of the charity shops over here now! 😏

Anyway, nothing crazy but some nice staple Jazz albums I couldn’t leave behind and some interesting Spanish Jazz Fusion LPs that’d I’d never of found over here - all super clean and a couple with some really nice samples on! 😅

What was most fun about this little come up though was noticing the other stuff the lovely old lady was selling in the shop…

Dusty bottles of old wine for €2 (looked like they’d been salvaged from the streets).
Homemade “Vitamin Energy” smoothies for €1.
“All kinds of clothes” for €2.
Summer quilts for €40.
Handkerchiefs and scarves for €2.
Glasses for €2.
Pendants and keychains for €1.
Corkscrews and bottle openers for €2.
Stuffed animals for €3.
Postcards for €0.50.
Mobile chargers for €3.
Plus a full menu of homemade food and drinks, and a whole lot more besides!

“Surprise yourself with the prices” - “Same quality but economical”! 😆 by @mr_krum

Not that they’re much use at the moment but the sweatshirts sold out a couple of weeks ago - thanks to all those who ordered 🙏

Just got one Medium and a couple of Large t-shirts left - hopefully this insane heat in the UK will push these last few over the finishing line 🥵🥶

All orders come with bonus Juice Crew hype sticker pack 😎

Feels like summer has arrived! 😅

Tomorrow I’ll be playing some appropriate records to compliment the wonderful weather whilst we celebrate the Gemini Twins birthday at Naima in Chichester 🥳🍾🥂

@hatmanlon and @bobby_cartell will also be playing and we would love your company if you so happen to be in the area 🕺💃

Can’t decide which version to play. Which is your favourite?

Gonna be playing records like this on Friday night from 8pm-1am with my man @wyclefgenre at the best bar in town - @alphabetbrighton 🥃🎶

Thanks to Ewan and a serendipitous moment last week @rarekindrecords this album is now back in my collection after “losing” it some 25 years ago 😅

Unfortunately no sound from this particular recording available on Instagram - the closest I could get was another sweet soul cut from the group, which I might pack in the 45 box too✌️ by @mr_krum

Japan 2026 Pt.2: Maradona Records 🎌🇦🇷🎶⚽️

On our recent visit to the land of the rising Sun, friendliest people on earth, & meticulously organised record shops, we stayed 4 days in Osaka, spending quality time with good friends @shawn_d_14 and @illnandes

I’d previously visited Osaka for only one day, most of which was spent wading through ¥300 crates in King Kong Records, so it was nice to spend more time there & further explore the city 😅

Of course, a lot of that “exploring” involved record shops, & there’s no shortage of amazing stores, all really well stocked with quality titles across every genre imaginable! Japan is undoubtedly THE dream destination for anyone with a vinyl buying habit. We did however manage to do plenty besides, including a spot of sightseeing, over indulging in incredible food & free flowing alcohol, all whilst being spoilt by the incomparable hospitality of the Japanese people we met 🍲🍣🍶🍻🍷🙌

The highlight for me though was finally visiting Maradona Records, which felt like one of life’s full circle moments…

I first met Shawn & Kazuki some 25 years ago when their mother brought them into my own little record shop as young teenagers & introduced them as hip-hop loving students with aspirations to become DJs. We quickly became friends & would practice together as well as dig for records at car boot sales, charity shops, etc.

Both have gone on to achieve their dreams - Kazuki becoming a very successful DJ, & more recently rapper with his group Yellow Dragon Band, & Shawn doing the same making music under the moniker Psycho Patch. I’m super proud of them & really happy to see them doing well, enjoying the lives they’ve carved out. Had the best time hanging with them again & soaking up the Osaka lifestyle 😎

Was great to finally meet Shawn’s partner Sae, who is also a DJ & top selector in her own right, as well as being a genuinely lovely & fun person to be around - her latest mixtape, “Extra Virgin Dreams”, was the soundtrack to the rest of my travel time around Japan 🎧🎶🌠🚅🏮❤️🙌

I could go on & on about how much of a great time we had in Osaka but run out of space 😬 Can’t wait to return - doooooomo arigatou!!! 🙏🙏🙏 by @mr_krum

Nice cassette storage unit find (which I desperately needed) from the house clearance guy at the booty this morning. Good opportunity to post the Kiss FM promo tape, which I also picked up from the boot sale a couple of months ago. Anybody else got one? Can’t find it listed anywhere online but might not be searching properly 😕

Still haven’t had a chance to sort through all the photos from Japan but just wanted to post this one before the moment passes (although we’ve already been home a month!)🥴😓

This wonderful lady, my wife’s aunty, turned 100 years old whilst we were over there and was one of the main reasons for our visit. I had the privilege of celebrating with the extended family and spending the afternoon with them in her home town of Miyazaki 😊😊😊

An incredible woman who spent her working life travelling the world as a representative for a Japanese sewing machine company, giving demonstrations in shops and at various industry events. I can’t imagine how she managed to fly around the globe, by herself, pre-internet, waaaaay before smart phones and without speaking or understanding a word of English! 🤯🙌🌟

An extremely gentle, kind natured and wise person I am in complete awe of her and the life she has lived. Being the eldest in a large family she also took care her siblings and is particularly close with my mother-in-law, who is the youngest. It’s hard believe either of them are over 70 but here she is celebrating 100 years on planet earth, with only a handful of grey hairs to show for it!

A true inspiration, I feel blessed and humbled to have spent time with her and look forward to seeing her again next year 😊

Please wish Sugako san a belated happy 100th birthday! 🥳👏👏👏 by @mr_krum

TokyoーOsakaーMiyazakiーIzuーTokyo 🎌🙌❤️🙏

Still haven’t had time to sort through all of the photos from Japan but had a few people ask what records I bought back, and since the sun has been shining today here’s a quick video of *most* of them! 😬

Some hype sticker upgrades, some gap fillers (loads of CTIs, which are soooo cheap - think the most I paid for one was ¥880, which is around £4.50!) and some long time wants… Japan record shops never disappoint and thanks to the very favourable exchange rate, a few trades and the generosity of friends and dealers, I managed to come home with a good chunk of my allocated record budget still intact 😅

I want to say a HUGE thank you to @shawn_d_14 and @brutalfruits for allowing us to stay with them. Along with @illnandes we had the best time in Osaka, eating, drinking, listening to music and making new friends🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏 Separate post about @maradonarecords to follow shortly…

Big thanks to @yasushi_gnt @groovenut_records_jp for the hospitality and records - it was great to see you again and hang out🍷🎶🤘

@shibuzochan - dom arigatou for lunch and your overwhelming generosity, both with your time and the gifts! 🙏🙏🙏 Hope to pay you back when we’re over again next year 👊

To all the shops I visited, enjoyed spending time in, and bought records from - THANK YOU! 🙌❤️

Playing lots of classic, feel-good summery records tomorrow at The Hole In The Wall's all-day bank holiday BBQ street party alongside @bobby_cartell and @hatmanlon - if you're in the Chichester vacinity between 12noon and 8pm please consider joining us for an afternoon of sunshine (🤞😬), good music, food and drinks 🌞🎶🌭🍻

*I'll actually be taking mainly 12"s and 45s but the albums they are from look prettier and a "wall of sound" always seems to do well on here. Swipe left for snaps of a few other 12"s that are also packed ☀️

"The Chi City Mobb"...

A name I came up with to group together three of my oldest friends who will all be travelling over from Chichester on Saturday to very kindly DJ at my birthday party ❤️

@hatmanlon I've probably known for the longest. A walking encyclopedia of the late 80s Rare Groove / Jazz Dance scene, with exceptional taste and an extremely lean collection.

Matt was the first person I knew to find (and actually discover for himself, if I'm not mistaken) the mythical "Moody" by The Gentle Rain in the early to mid 90s. We would travel all over the South Coast early Sunday mornings, hitting up as many carboot sales as we had time for, fueled by, sometimes absolutely stonking, whisky or vodka induced hangovers 🥴

I was with Matt when he bought a handful of killer Library LPs, including "The Big Beat" and "Afro Rock" (if my memory serves me well - Matt?) for 50p each at a country booty in the middle of nowhere. Can still see them sat there on the grass lent up against the leg of a wobbly wallpapering table! Same day another digging friend of ours, Nic, found a mint-in-box Soundburger for a fiver at the next bootsale we went to. Those were the days! 😃

@oldecompany Mike P should have been entering the DMCs in his early 20s, and probably whatever the equivalent skate comp was at that time. Supremely talented on the cuts and juggles and a very big influence on me when I started DJing. No idea what he's gonna bring along on Saturday but if you're a fan of the Boot Camp Clik, Wu, DOOM, Fat Beats era indi joints, and everything in between, you won't be disappointed 🔪🔊🎶

Last but not least @bobby_cartell. I couldn't tell you how many times I've DJ'd with him over the years! We also had a very good run at the sunday afternoon bootys together, stretching across many seasons. Was with him when he found a SEALED original "Cosmic Vortex" at Chi Market car boot for 50p! 😱 Was obviously very jealous about that one! 😬
