It's 7th August 1996, and you want to surf the web. You press the power button on your computer, and go and make a cup of tea. When you come back, it's just finished starting up. You shout to make sure no one's using the landline, turn on your router and connect to the internet.
Once you've recovered from the deafening din of the router dialling in, you open up Netscape Navigator. Hmm, where to go?
What about that new webpage you heard a DJ mention on your favourite radio station, Absolute Radio? Yes, you wrote it down on a piece of paper, here it is.
You go and make another cup of tea whilst the page loads. Woah, look at all those links! You'll be surfing this site for hours!
Oh no, what's happened? Just as a picture of Dave Berry looking handsome was reaching 4% loaded, the internet disconnected! Why??
Your mum's picked up the phone to call her sister! Arrrrgh, she'll be on there for hours!
You sadly close Netscape and browse the games menu. You open up Minesweeper because it sounds like it might at least have some explosions. You play it for exactly 45 seconds before remembering it's rubbish and you still don't understand the rules.
Sigh.
Maybe tomorrow you'll get back online and find out what the bottom 96% of Dave Berry looks like.
