There are unwritten rules to “making it” in the music business. There’s a weight limit. An age limit. A required level of likability. Women are supposed to be sweet, cool, effortless. I’m none of those things. I’m not thin. I’m not 22. I’m not trying to be everyone’s lovable extrovert. I’m a weird woman in her 30s making music about real life, my experiences, my flaws, and everything I’ve been through. I spent years trying to be what people wanted me to be. Smaller. Younger. Nicer. More likeable. More palatable. And you know what happened? I burned out. So now I make music my way. I play by my own rules. I ignore the criticism about my body, my age, my personality, and the fact that I refuse to fit neatly into anyone’s idea of what a woman in music should be. I’m not here to be liked by everyone. I’m here to be honest. And apparently, that’s enough to make them talk about me. So this is me. The Queen They Love to Hate. by @mrmoss.official
