Meet Benedicta G. Ogar: Founder & CEO of Cavodah Hospitality Management and Founder of SAHA Africa, and winner of the Hospitality Impact Award 2025, building the talent and systems shaping Africa’s hospitality industry.

Happy Birthday My Enadooooo! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s funny to think that I’ve been part of more than a quarter of your life, and somehow, in those years, we’ve packed in enough memories, laughter, stories and life experiences for a lifetime. We’ve seen different versions of ourselves, walked through different seasons, and through it all, we’re still here. My girl! What a gift! 🫂❤️

I don’t say it nearly enough, but I’m so grateful for you. For your heart, for the way you love, for the light you carry, and for all the little things that make you my Enado. There’s something so special about friendships that have seen you through life, and I’m glad ours is one of them.

I pray that God is especially kind to you. That He gives you peace in the places that need it, joy that settles deep in your soul, and answers to prayers you haven’t even found the words for.
May life keep unfolding beautifully for you, and may this new decade be everything your heart needs and so much more.

Here’s to us, to all the years behind us, and to the many more memories we’ll make. ❤️🥂 by @msogarr

Today, we talk about what really keeps a bar standing. 🍾🍸

I’m honoured to moderate ‘THE BUSINESS BEHIND THE BAR: Building Bars That Last, For Business and Bartenders at #LagosCocktailWeek2026.

From the cocktail menu to bottle service, a bar is only as strong as the business and the people behind it. That means making sound business decisions while investing in the professionals who make it all happen: how we pay them, develop them and give them reasons to stay.

That’s the conversation we’re having. Not profit or people, but how one sustains the other.

I’ll be joined by a brilliant lineup:

✨ Lara Rawa @lararawa of @lagoscocktail
✨ Roy @boozybasterd of @nomaadalagos
✨ Chiyem Wendy Abah @wendzconnoisseur of @sipandshots
✨ Dewunmi “Bankhead” Adebesin @thatbankheadboy

📅 Today, Thursday, 22nd October 2026 | 2:00 PM
📍 Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos
ℹ️ lagoscocktail.com

Whether you own a bar, run one or work behind one, come through. This one’s for you.

What does it mean for a space to feel like us? 💭
—-
A conversation with my friend Victor has stayed with me. We were discussing spaces receiving attention in Nigeria today, places like Ilé Eros, IKOKO, NOK by Alára and SEA Experience, alongside older buildings like Bogobiri House, Nike Art Gallery, buildings that existed long before we began describing them as “interesting.”🧐
His thought was that perhaps this isn’t simply a design trend. Perhaps it reflects a renewed confidence in identity.
—
For a long time, sophistication in our hospitality spaces meant looking outward. A beautiful hotel or restaurant was expected to resemble London, Paris, Dubai or New York.
But guests evolve. And after experiencing enough of everywhere else, perhaps a different question emerges:
-
What does it feel like to experience us?
Not an “African aesthetic” reduced to prints and baskets, but something deeper: materiality, craft, climate, texture, food, storytelling, how we gather, how we host and how our spaces breathe.
.
As a hospitality consultant, I think service design may be approaching the same inflection point.
Standards, structure and consistency still matter. But the next evolution cannot simply be about getting better at someone else’s definition of hospitality.
.
It should combine the discipline of world-class hospitality with something Africa has always understood deeply: how to host people. Our warmth. Our generosity. Our sense of occasion. Our ability to make people feel genuinely welcomed, not merely served.
.
This isn’t about rejecting Western influence. It’s about moving beyond imitation.
So, are we witnessing a design trend or a genuine return to identity?
And if our spaces are coming home, shouldn’t our hospitality experiences come home too?

At the Investor & Business Leaders Mixer in Cotonou, Benedicta Ogar, CEO of Cavodah Hospitality Ltd and Founder of SAHA Africa, sat down with Aminuo Akadiri, CEO, FEWACCI from Benin, to talk about something that doesn't come up in most trade conversations: the real rules, and the real gray areas, around Beninese nationals working in Nigeria's hospitality industry.

This is the kind of conversation a report can't give you. Two people, from two sides of a border, working through what's actually possible for people, not just goods and capital, to move between their markets.

This is what the Afrotrade Trade & Culture Mission was built for.

Tomorrow, I take my seat at the BusinessDay Tourism Conference 3.0. @businessdayng

Nigeria’s Tourism: From Resilience to Investment-Ready Growth, isn’t just this year’s theme, it’s the challenge before our industry.

My view is simple: investment follows credibility. Credibility comes from standards, systems, execution, and consistently delivering experiences people can trust.

Looking forward to sharing the stage with industry leaders and contributing to the conversation on building a stronger, more investment-ready tourism sector.

Grateful to BusinessDay for the invitation.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to celebrate with me, show up, send a message, make a call, or simply keep me in your prayers. Whether you were in the room or celebrating from afar, every kind word, every laugh, every hug, and every thoughtful gesture meant more than you know.
My heart is full, and I’m incredibly grateful for the love that surrounds me.

Here’s to a new chapter, rich in purpose, good people, unforgettable moments, and embracing every opportunity this new chapter brings.

If you’re looking for the people shaping the future of hospitality in Africa, this is where you’ll find them.

HMC Africa @hotelmanagersconference remains one of the continent’s most influential gatherings of owners, investors, operators, managers, and industry leaders.

Day 1 delivered exactly what I’ve come to expect; powerful conversations, fresh insights, meaningful reconnections, and a community committed to raising the standard of hospitality across Africa.

I also had the privilege of speaking on “Standards That Scale.” As our industry grows, one truth stands out: growth doesn’t create chaos - it exposes it. The leaders of tomorrow are building systems and standards that can scale today.

Here’s a glimpse of the conversations, connections, and moments that made Day 1 one to remember.

Who did you spot? 👀

And then they arrived. ❤️

The people who have walked with me through different seasons of my life.🥹🤩

Some I’ve known for years. Some for what feels like a lifetime. Every one of them holds a special place in my heart.

There was no agenda. No pressure. Just good food, great music, effortless conversations, endless laughter, and the kind of joy that comes from being surrounded by people who simply make life better.

Looking back, I don’t just remember turning 40.

I remember how I felt.

Grateful.
Present.
Deeply loved.

Thank You Jesus, for the gift of life, for friendships that have stood the test of time, and for the people You’ve so graciously placed in my life. 🙏

Here’s to many more beautiful moments together. 🥂❤️ by @msogarr
