✨👻 Spooky Paper Marbling 👻✨ 3rd–5th graders had a blast today layering Sharpie “window” designs with swirling marbled colors! The big reveal was AWESOME and the kids loved seeing how their spooky windows transformed once the marbling hit. 🖤🕸️ This started as an early-finisher project after our Haunted Math Mansions, but will transform into a collaborative giant hallway display for an upcoming project ☺️ #ArtClassMagic #MarblingArt #ElementaryArt #SpookySeasonArt #CreativeKids #artteacher #teachersfollowteachers #iteachart #arted #artclass #elementaryartteacher #autumnart #fallartprojects #ArtEducation by @mspottsartroom
ALEBRIJES in HOJALATA! 🇲🇽🌈 I absolutely love the vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and imaginative creatures found in Mexican folk art. They’re SO beautiful! The full lesson resources are available for purchase on my TPT, but the slides I use to teach this project are FREE in the resource description cause I love ya! #ArtTeacher #elementaryart #arteducation #iteachart #artteacherlife by @mspottsartroom
Upcycling, recycling… whatever you call it! We all love a “free” art room hack! Thanks to @pringles ❤️❤️How do you use recycled things in the art room?? #artteacher #arteducation #iteachart #arteducation #artclass by @mspottsartroom
🐛🦋2nd Grade Solar Printed Arthropods!🕷️☀️ I cannot recommend this project enough!! My students had SO much fun experimenting with solar printing, learning about arthropods, and watching their artwork transform right before their eyes! All of my resources for this lesson are available on Teachers Pay Teachers, BUT even if you don’t use my resources, PLEASE try solar printing (or your own version of this project) with your students! It was seriously SO cool, and they absolutely loved it! As always, my Canva instructional slides are FREE, and you can find everything through my TPT link in my bio! #ArtTeacher #ElementaryArt #SolarPrinting #Cyanotype #TeachersPayTeachers by @mspottsartroom
These Solar Printed Arthropods have been a student FAVORITE! ☀️🐛💙 And they’ve quickly become one of my favorite lessons to teach, too! I’ll admit, I was a little intimidated by cyanotypes. I actually had a kit sitting in my classroom for YEARS before I finally felt brave enough to give it a try. And I am SO glad I did! My second grade artists started by collecting leaves and using sunlight to create their own cyanotype prints. Then, we learned about the incredible scientific illustrations of Maria Sibylla Merian and practiced drawing arthropods from observation! This lesson was such a wonderful combination of art, science, experimentation, and discovery! From watching our prints transform in the sunlight to studying the tiny details of insects, there was SO much learning happening along the way. It definitely took some extra prep (and a little trial and error on my part), but seeing how excited my students were made every bit of it worth it! Sometimes the lessons that push us outside our comfort zones turn out to be the BEST ones. #artprocess #artteacher #artteacherlife #iteachart #arted by @mspottsartroom
SURPRISING OUR NEW KINDERGARTEN TEACHER!! Our kindergarten classes were getting a little too full, so we officially added a THIRD kindergarten class! And of course, that meant a brand new classroom needed a little love! As a Title I school, donations like this mean SO much! A HUGE thank you to @booooomjackson for gifting us one of their ScholarPro classroom rugs! Not only is this rug SO soft and plush, but it has reinforced edges to prevent fraying, a non slip backing, and corners that actually stay FLAT! And my favorite part? WATER BEADS RIGHT UP! Making spills so much easier to clean up, which is a MUST in an elementary classroom! It’s the little things that make a classroom feel like home, and I’m so grateful we got to do this for our newest teacher! 🥹 #booooomjackson #booooomjacksonclassroomrug #teachergram #KindergartenTeacher #teacherlife by @mspottsartroom
THIS ONE’S FOR NORTH CAROLINA! ❤️ The best feeling is catching groups of adults stuck looking at our artworks on display in the hallways 🥹 I absolutely LOVED creating these North Carolina symbol prints with my 4th graders! Students had tons of choices when selecting their symbols, but the best part was all the research we did along the way! Did you know NC is the numba 1 producer of sweet potatoes in the country?! 🍠 Because we sure didn’t! And of course, my kids HAD to include the Carolina Panthers and Hurricanes logos… and honestly, WHY NOT?! We’re creating artwork that I want them to feel connected to and LOVE! We also explored the history and symbolism of traditional quilt patterns and used those as inspiration for our collage frames! Printmaking, history, research, cultural connections, and SO much student choice all wrapped into one project! These are the lessons I love teaching! #ArtEducation #ElementaryArt #NCAEA #artteacher #artteacherlife by @mspottsartroom
Why just hand out prizes when you can turn it into a whole adventure?! My students earned their treats, but first they had to work together, solve clues, think critically, and find their prize! A little teamwork & problem solving to scare the kids on the day before Halloween 🫣 #artteacher #teachersfollowteachers #teacher #teacherlıfe #teachergram by @mspottsartroom
Ceramic pumpkins are BACK for another year! 🎃🍂 This has been one of my favorite 5th grade traditions for years now, and it never gets old! What makes this project so special is seeing how much my students grow as ceramicists each year. Some of these amazing pumpkins will be for sale in November at our Family Night!! #artteacherlife #artclass #ceramics #ceramicpumpkin #kidart by @mspottsartroom
ANDDDD it’s SCIENCE!! SORRY my job is SO FUN! My 2nd graders have been learning ALL about solids, liquids, and gases, and we’ve been working up to THIS! FLUFFY SLIME! We mixed liquid glue, shaving cream (hello, gas bubbles!), and borax activator to make slime! Then we took the activation to the EXTREME to see how much we could change its PROPERTIES! Hands on science is the BEST science! Sweater is @threebirdnest Thank you for the hair inspo @gracabo.art #SecondGradeScience #Elementaryteacher #teacher #teachersfollowteachers #wear3bn by @mspottsartroom

Here’s one of the projects I created to help me pass my National Boards on my FIRST try! I originally created this skull grid drawing project a few years ago to help my students develop their observational drawing skills, understand proportions, and build confidence in drawing realistically! I decided to take it a step further by incorporating a Georgia O’Keeffe artist study. Students explore O’Keeffe’s iconic skull paintings and create their own compositions by combining realistic skull drawings with landscapes inspired by places that are meaningful to them. I love this project because it challenges students to slow down, really LOOK at what they’re drawing, and realize they’re capable of so much more than they think! I’ve finally turned it into a complete project packet, including skull drawing references, a four day lesson plan, and the Georgia O’Keeffe connection! You can find my Skull Grid Drawing Packet on Teachers Pay Teachers in my store, Ms. Potts Art Room! ❤️ #ArtTeacher #ElementaryArt #artteacherlife #ArtEducation #artclass by @mspottsartroom
