Our alumna spotlight today is Emily Grace McCall! Emily Grace received a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and a minor in marketing in May 2023. She went on to complete a Master of Arts in communication here at MSU through our Communication Graduate Program in December 2024. After graduation, Emily Grace took on a professional role as photographer for the Office of Public Affairs here at MSU. 📸🐾

Emily Grace said that, through our graduate program, she learned many ways that communication research could be used to conduct studies and develop theories. One of her favorite classes was with Dr. Seitz, and she appreciated the application of classwork in real-life situations.

“She took us to the research park to observe communication research first-hand. Other professors provided real-world connections as well,” she said. “In Dr. Poe’s class, we did a live analysis of the presidential election”

Emily Grace credits our program for giving her a great group of friends. She said graduate school requires a transition from undergraduate studies – and having friends to experience the journey with made a significant difference. She offered advice for current graduate students in our program:

“You should definitely strive to do your best with your work but also make time to be intentional with the people around you” she said. “Before you know it, you’ll be graduating and going separate ways. So, enjoy the journey!”

Emily Grace shared her favorite quote with us: “Life is short, the world is wide, I want to make some memories.” – Mamma Mia (the movie) by @msstatecommgp
