A final message from the Mount Fuji Summit. Thank you to everyone who donated towards this initiative, to support orphan and vulnerable children. It’s not too late to go and donate: https://www.givengain.com/campaign/mount-fuji-charity-hike. All funds raised from this hiking challenge will be going towards ensuring children can be educated, receive healthy meals, and supported in every area of their lives so that they can have a fighting chance for a better future. Your small change can make a huge change, one life at a time. #mountain #mountfuji #hiking #charity #challenge #lifechild #donate #makeadifference #onelifeatatime #africa by @mtfujihike
The Summit: A 1am start in the dark, cold, and lack of sleep, but filled with faith, purpose, and commitment to changing a child’s life. We are so grateful to say that the whole team completed the challenge and summited Mount Fuji (3,776m / 12,389ft). Getting to see the sunrise from on top was amazing. The team that works together wins together. We are definitely #strongertogether! We are stronger, because of your support! Help our fundraising goal to reach the top! We need to reach R250,000 for the children (@lifechildafrica). Every bit helps. The journey up: When we started the hike, we had to start from the 5th station and we climbed to the 8th Station (3200m). The Yoshida route is the one we chose. The route started off with beautiful greenery, which was misleading of the climb ahead. With Mount Fuji being a volcano, the further up we went the terrain changed to more of volcanic rock and ash. The slopes became increasingly steep, making the climb physically demanding. What made things harder for most of our team, is the altitude and lack of oxygen, as this was a first for a lot of the team to experience it. Altitude sickness is a serious thing and can be very dangerous. We kept checking our oxygen levels to ensure our team is coping and helped where needed. We stayed at one of the higher huts for the night. Sleep was minimal, our bodies absolutely exhausted, and we knew we had to be up early to start the summit attempt at 1am… Exhausted, but we know it’s important, because children need a fighting chance and someone who will be there for them even when times get tough. Help @lifechildafrica to endure and be able to continue to take care of hundreds of children even though times are tough. Most of the men on the Mount Fuji team are fathers. We all want to see our children grow up in societies that are safe and full of opportunity, as well as healthy families. We believe that this can be possible if we work to see that not only for our own families, but also that many other families are restored, strengthened, and made whole. When children and families are restored, it stitches fractured communities back together and creates hope that all our children can grow up in a better and safer society. This isn’t a problem that only some of us must fix. It’s a “we” problem. In a world of complacency, let us step up and make an impact. You can make an impact today by supporting the work of Life Child with vulnerable children, families, and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. This week, Anthony got a great opportunity to attend the 33rd Japan small group national prayer breakfast over two days and met a lot of wonderful people. The team also did some sightseeing and experienced Japanese culture while waiting for the last of our team mates to arrive this weekend. After a long train ride to the town of Mount Fuji, we arrived at our accommodation, ready to have a good night’s sleep in preparation for our hike tomorrow. Tomorrow the challenge begins as we hike Mount Fuji for orphan and vulnerable children in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa (@lifechildafrica). Get ready to climb with us. You can support here: https://www.givengain.com/campaign/mount-fuji-charity-hike or see link in bio. #mountain #mountfuji #hike #japan #lifechild #onelifeatatime #childrenmatter #africa by @mtfujihike
Sometimes, when you are wanting to see a highly vulnerable community changed for the better, it can feel like you are pushing a rock up a hill by yourself. It can feel challenging and overwhelming. The truth is that we can’t do it alone. We need a team to help us push forward to be able to see any kind of movement and change. That’s why we are glad that we can do this Mount Fuji challenge as a team and also have others alongside us, supporting this mission. A child shouldn’t have to feel like they are alone in this world. They should feel like they can do anything, because they have a village behind them, cheering them on. Let’s encourage and support orphan and vulnerable children together.
