Have you ever seen a Dhunuchi dance? During Durga puja, Bengali women, dressed in white and red, holding clay pots filled with fragrant burning embers, invoke Maa Dugga performing the Dhunuchi dancing to the beats of the dhaak (the drum).
The triad of the dancer, the dhoop and the dhaaki (drummer) create an aura so intense and pure, the whole ambience transforms into a symbiotic oneness. The dancer's moves choreographs the smoke from the dhoop leaving behind a tangible spectacle of poetry in motion.
As a photographer, the eyes and the camera too become one with Dugga, filled with reverence and gratitude, to be able to capture, and treasure these beautiful moments of synergy.

Durga Pandals, Mumbai - 2026

Dussehra—also known as Vijayadashami—celebrates the victory of good over evil. The festival takes place on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashvina.

In eastern, northeastern, and southern states, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja. It celebrates Goddess Durga defeating the buffalo demon Mahishasura after a fierce nine-day battle, restoring balance and dharma (righteousness).

In northern, central, and western India, Dussehra marks the triumph of the Hindu deity Rama over the ten-headed demon king Ravana. Ravana had kidnapped Rama’s wife, Sita, and Rama defeated him with help from Lakshmana and Hanuman.

Bengal Club Shivaji Park in its 91st year of celebration!

The 104-year-old Bengal Club, Shivaji Park, is celebrating its 91st Durga Puja this year.

The celebrations centred around a 10,000-square-foot pandal, is just gorgeous!! The whole setup looks like a tableau of Raja Ravi Verma's paintings, designed by Bollywood art director @rupinsuchak Beautiful tall paintings of Maa in her different forms and roles surround the magenta tinted ambience, with interesting installations made of bamboo and thread. by @mumbaiography
