A big Ol’ lead cow for the freezer. Just as big if not bigger than many mature bulls. Crazy how big and fat some cows can get!

This was the last day of a 5 day solo hunt, I got in at dark and camped down low in a spot I scouted on maps. It seemed too sagey so I went high to my trusted September early October spots, went down the middle, saw too many atvs and hunters.

On my last day, I came back to the place I camped my first night. A spot I had scouted on maps and I thought for sure should have elk.

I was lucky to dodge multiple moose (one of them as I was getting into position to shoot this cow, was staring straight at me 20 yds away, luckily way to my left, off this young bulls rear end. He then proceed to not even care, and trot about 20 more yards…stare, then just keep feeding nonchalant while I watched my cow go down. Moose just don’t care in the lower 48 Rockies.

This is my 3rd time being within 20 yards of a Bull Moose, one of which I thought I was going to be trampled because it had no idea I was there. Luckily it wandered off with a weird look in its eye.

Hunters don’t scare them because it’s almost impossible to draw a tag, bipedal animals are just eye candy for them to try to figure out.

Most predators in the lower 48 just cannot kill a moose with less than 3 other predators willing to risk the cause. People love to think a mountain lion can kill moose whenever they want. Not true at all, once the moose gets to about 3 years of age. Pretty much out of the question for a solo Mountain lion to kill a big mature moose on its own. Moose, Elk calves, Deer fawns, family dogs, cats etc. no problem.

With just minutes of legal light left on the last day of my hunt, I broke the dead silence and incoming frost of mid November night in the Winds, It was a minimal hike as well. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Solo hunts are tough for photography, but I captured enough to bring back memories to tell my kids, and to show the very few who ask.

Solo is my way to go. Unless it’s someone I really love. I find elk every time when I’m alone. No drama!

It’s going to be a great holiday season with all this meat!

Yeah, it can be cold. They make clothes for that.

Come fish!

All of these fish hit the net in 2024. (Missing only about 5,000 others of course). This reel could amount to maybe one week of guiding during prime season. Luckily there is such a thing as mental photography. Can’t wait to float that boat again! by @music_n_mtns

Is it possible to have so many memories in one year, that you actually start losing your memory?

The sheer amount of amazing times 2024 has provided is so extensive that it has overwhelmed me, I can try to recall each one, but it always blends with another eventually because it literally never ends. I am overloaded with indescribable amazing snapshots of people and children enjoying life so constantly, what more can a father and husband ask for. This year went fast, that’s for sure.
