There is something about seeing women find their voices, grow in confidence, and realise that they belong in every room where decisions are being made. It does something to my heart. ❤️

I had the pleasure of facilitating Module 12: Introduction to Advocacy and Digital Campaigning under the TuWezeshe Akina Dada Fellowship, organised by @cdf_tanzania

We spent time exploring advocacy, digital campaigning, and how we can use our voices and digital platforms to challenge issues, influence change, and make our communities better. Through discussions and group activities, we looked at how to move beyond simply talking about an issue to building campaigns that inspire people to listen, care, and take action.

But beyond the session itself, this experience reminded me of something deeply personal.

Training young women and fellow women is not just my passion; it is something my heart is deeply attached to. I love seeing women become louder about the things that matter. I love seeing them embrace growth, discover their potential, and become confident enough to take up space. And I especially love seeing women sitting at decision-making tables, not simply because they are women, but because they are knowledgeable, capable, and have something valuable to contribute.

I believe in a world where women don’t have to keep proving that they deserve to be heard. A world where our ideas, expertise, and leadership speak for themselves, and where we have the confidence and opportunities to shape the decisions that affect our lives.

As a journalist, digital rights advocate, and trainer, I believe that our voices are powerful, but when they are informed, strategic, and united, they can become catalysts for meaningful social change.

Every time I get an opportunity to share knowledge, mentor, or create room for another woman to grow, I see it as an investment in something bigger than myself.

To the TuWezeshe Akina Dada fellows, keep learning, keep growing, keep speaking up, and never shrink yourself to make others comfortable. There is room for you at the table, and your voice matters. ❤️

S/O to @cdf_tanzania for trusting me with this opportunity.

On this Nyerere Day, we celebrate the enduring legacy of Tanzania’s Founding Father, whose leadership and vision laid the foundation for national unity and solidarity.

As we mark 27 years since his passing, may his commitment to peace, patriotism, equality, and development continue to inspire us to build a brighter future for our nation.

His legacy lives on. His values remain our guide

Have you ever asked yourself , as a journalist, how do you report news based on facts without the pressure of being the first to publish?

This is a critical question we continually reflect on as the Mwanga Hub team, particularly in our pursuit of ethical and responsible journalism.

The Mwanga Hub team recently had the opportunity to participate in the Digital Rights Academy hosted by Paradigm Initiative (PIN) @paradigmhq and Tech & Media Convergence (TMC) @mediaconvergency , The training provided valuable insights into the principles of digital rights, media ethics, and responsible reporting in the digital era.

Through this experience, we learned that journalism is anchored not on speed, but on accuracy, verification, and credibility. We were reminded of the importance of thoroughly fact-checking information, cross-verifying sources, and ensuring that all published content is evidence-based and reliable.

The training also deepened our understanding of misinformation and disinformation, and how rapidly false information can spread within digital spaces. This reinforced our commitment to responsible reporting practices that protect the public from misleading narratives.

Furthermore, we gained a clearer appreciation of the journalist’s role as a guardian of truth and a custodian of public trust, especially in an evolving digital ecosystem.

Overall, the experience strengthened our professional values and reaffirmed that impactful journalism is not defined by being first, but by being accurate, ethical, and responsible in delivering verified information to the public. by @mwanga_hub

Day 2 at the Digital Rights Academy

Today was a deep dive into the legal risks, newsroom safety, and the sharp realities of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).

We learned that keeping our newsrooms safe isn’t just about protecting computers, it’s about defending the people behind the stories, especially women and marginalized voices who face systematic attacks online.

As media outlets, we aren’t waiting for the digital space to magically become safer. We are actively building the internal safety rules, using free open-source tools, and creating the legal alliances needed to protect our team and preserve the truth

Day 1 at the Digital Rights Academy was an absolute masterclass. 🌐✨

From auditing how AI, deepfakes and information overload challenge modern journalism to breaking down fundamental digital rights the reality is clear: we can no longer just report the news. We have to actively defend the truth and protect civic space.

Massive insights from the teams at Paradigm Initiative @paradigmhq and Tech & Media Convergency today @mediaconvergency .We are taking these exact practical frameworks straight into our next big media challenge.

Sometimes i sit back and ask myself who really controls the internet?

At first, the answer seems straightforward. Governments set regulations. Tech companies design and manage platforms. Users fuel the system with constant activity, content, and engagement

But after attending the IGTWG Stakeholder Workshop on Inclusive Digital Futures and AI Governance as a representative of Mwanga Hub @mwanga_hub that simplicity began to fade.

It became clear that the internet is not controlled by a single hand. Power is distributed across many invisible layers algorithms that shape what we see, data systems that predict and influence behavior, and policy frameworks that define what is allowed, what is amplified, and what is suppressed.

In that complexity, digital inclusion cannot mean access alone. Access is only the beginning. The deeper question is , who has the knowledge to understand these systems, and who has the voice to influence how they are designed and governed?

This is where digital literacy becomes more than a skill it becomes awareness, responsibility, and critical consciousness. It allows people not only to use technology, but to question it, challenge it, and shape it.

As i reflected during the workshop, “Kitu chako cha thamani ni Akili yako, itunze” carries a deeper meaning in the digital era. Before we share our lives online our data, opinions, movements, and identities we must first understand the systems we are stepping into.

The future of the internet and artificial intelligence should not be left in the hands of a few powerful actors. It should be shaped collectively through transparency, accountability, and active public participation.

That is the future worth working toward a digital world that is inclusive not only in access, but in power, voice, and decision-making.

Anyway 🤗 , Happy new month. May this new season bring clarity, discipline, and direction as we continue to build, question, and engage the digital world more 🥂.
