Last month I flew out to NY during Fashion Week to continue a collaborative series I started earlier this year as part of a community-building project for @myntwave. After years of building a foundation for both the brand and myself as an artist, I found myself stretched between two worlds. I started to grow tired of the usual brand route of markets, pop-ups, and showcases. We’ve done our fair share of fashion shows, but somewhere along the way, I began to forget why I started making clothes in the first place. None of the traditional marketing and sales moves fulfilled the deeper desire and true mission I had, to connect with creators around the world on the journey of independent artistry who share my love for Hip-Hop and music. @exp.mynt came to me as a way to merge these two worlds of performance art and fashion. In one sense, it’s an exercise in live mixing and performance with my favorite noise-making toys. In another, it’s a platform to spotlight some of the friends I’m meeting along the way, all while showcasing the garmynts we’ve been adding to the archives month after month and embedding them with new stories and memories. The final volume of sessions from this year’s experimynts is coming to YouTube a few at a time over the next few weeks. Scroll for a sneak peak at some of the artists on deck.
