How do you know when to reintroduce new foods on a gut healing journey ? My Wound Theory ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป One of the biggest mistakes that is made when healing is rushing reintroduction of food. Why? You see, majority of disease/ imbalance is rooted in a leaky gut. Therefore healing the gut on a strategic elimination- healing- reintroduction diet can be a cure. Eg. Eggs are a common arthritis trigger before the gut has sealed. Even with broth etc, they must be eliminated in most cases until no pain is present. Any food items that are poorly digested and therefore have a somewhat abrasive effect on the gut lining, can perpetuate symptoms. Managing/ reducing conditions with a clean diet is different to complete gut sealing and reversal. This can be the difference between being 80% better and 100% better. True healing is regaining the ability to eat broad wholefoods and feel perfect. ( no dependence on dairy free/ gluten free/ supps etc ). Ancestral eating with shed imbalances. All the way to their core. A good base diet ( intial gut sealing foods) is a must and takes ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป - Time ( commonly 3-6-12 months ) - Modification ( adjusting fat, histamine, specific vegetables based off individual needs, progression) this also facilitates complete sealing as un modified details can also prevent full repair - Waiting for 100% removal of symptoms ( which is a green flag that you are thriving and can recommence reintroduction eg. Zero skin condition present, zero digestive disturbance, zero joint pain etc ) Reintroducing foods when not enough time has passed and some symptoms are still present, prevents the gut wall from fully sealing. Adding these foods back to a healthy environment, after sealing is typically beneficial and not problematic. My biggest tip is to wait. Wait for 100% remission. Wait to be 100% sure you are symptom free. Rebuilding a whole new digestive system, layer by layer. Full confirmation of the gut wall sealing once you get to the end. Time to return to what nutrition should have been all along. A restoration of a solid foundation and thriving with a broad Ancestral way of eating. Freedom. Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
Breakdown of Linaโ€™s Ancestral Rheumatoid Arthritis ( RA) reversal case ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป How did we do it ? There is a misconception that managing RA is reversal. It isnโ€™t. If dairy, eggs, tomatoes, wheat etc bring the arthritis back, you are simply managing it. Itโ€™s there lingering under the surface. The diagnosis hasnโ€™t been shed. There is a step beyond that. Reversal involves a gut that is fully rebuilt and robust. A body that is capable of handling a broad range of foods. Popular management diets like Carnivore and Paleo only target the issue on a surface level. Take out triggering foods, feel better but add them back in and issues return. It doesnโ€™t enable long term freedom. True fundamental healing in my experience involves 3 critical steps 1. Eliminate 2. Repair 3. Reintroduce The combination of temporarily avoiding trigger foods, fine tuning triggering elements ( histamine/ fat etc) and prioritising healing foods eventually leads to remission that coexists with healing on a deeper level. From there food reintroduction is simply a matter of time. Each individual will experience their own unique adjustments, in Linaโ€™s case she was sensitive to carrots in the beginning. What I love most about the Proper Nutrition methods is the fact that there is no cult like devotion to one specific diet, the focus is food based healing resulting in Ancestral living. In a time where we are all deeply aware of the dangers of industrial seed oils, refined sugars and gmo wheat, we must not forget that health is multifaceted. Health is also community, making memories, reducing stress and having fun spontaneous moments of joy. Healing to the point of being able to life in moments and stay healthy is something special. MR3โ€™s GUT HEALING JOURNEY We began our gut healing journey for Mr. 3 when he was just over one year old, after discovering a severe allergic reaction to peanut butter at six months. This led to worsening eczema and more food allergies. By 12 months, he was diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), high histamine intolerance, severe eczema, and multiple food allergies. At 15 months, we started a tailored Ancestral gut healing diet to reduce inflammation, stabilise mast cells, and promote gut health, guided by our nutritionist @mypropernutrition_ In the first phase, we eliminated almost all foods, keeping only homemade bone broth, collagen-rich red meats, beef tallow, pumpkin, zucchini, and carrots for about 10 months. After seeing improvements in his eczema and gut symptoms, we gradually reintroduced ghee, butter, yogurt, egg yolks, and then egg whites over four months, followed by fruits and vegetables like apples, mango, pears, blueberries, and broccoli. After another six months, we began adding rice, potatoe, bread, and milk. We continue to introduce new foods every few months, hoping to eventually reintroduce the foods he previously reacted to. We are optimistic that as his gut health improves, these foods will not trigger anaphylactic reactions. This journey emphasises the importance of a personalised approach to gut health, highlighting the connection between diet, immune response, and overall well-being. With careful monitoring and professional guidance, we feel confident in our path forward. โš ๏ธ Disclaimer: I am NOT a health expert. What I share about my childโ€™s allergies and health is based on our personal experiences. โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข #gut #guthealth #carnival #ancestraldiet by @mypropernutrition_
Reversing Eczema, MCAS and Allergies for Mr 2 ( nearly 3) Key concepts during our successful treatment ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป 1. Histamine ( building over time ) A slow and steady start small approach. Histamine tolerance can be rebuilt over time by repairing the gut. Damage to the gut lining reduces production of diamine oxidase (DAO), the enzyme that breaks down histamine. Cases I work with require a low histamine diet as a starting point. Stock and meat cook time require personal adjustment ( time tolerated with no histamine symptoms ). Over time as the gut repairs, amount of histamine consumed can be increased via monitoring. Eventually, with a repaired gut Mr 2 has been able to thrive off high histamine foods such as yogurt, avocado and banana with zero return of symptoms. 2. Red meat over chicken and fish High quality red meat was the protein base for all meals. Extremely nutrient dense, bioavailable and has high healing potential. Chicken is omega 6&9 dominant and can be quite inflammatory when over consumed, it is also high histamine. Fish/ seafood can be an immune trigger for some, and can have reduced healing potential due to lower amounts of collagen and fat. Incorporating a temporary carnivore element into our approach was key. 3. Animal fat prioritisation Animal fats such as marrow, tallow and dripping were included in all meals. Fat intake is integral for both repairing the gut wall and restoring the skin barrier. We gradually incorporated these over time. As tolerance has been rebuilt, a higher amount of fat has been included. New tolerated foods such as egg yolks and butter have further enhanced skin health. 4. Reintroduction of food based upon asymptomatic state. As symptoms cleared, we introduced foods one item at a time, ensuring that they were tolerated. As the leaky gut heals layer by layer, more resilience is created to handle new foods. This allowed us to focus on animal foods first and to build up to consuming a broad range of added wholefoods over time such as eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, potatoes, rice. Keep in mind it has taken us a year of 1:1 work to get to this point Hope you find this helpful Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
This week I sat down to chat with the @correctiveculture to discuss Linaโ€™s Rheumatoid Arthritis reversal case on a My Proper Nutrition protocol Previously showcased with before and after bloodwork to evidence the reversal WITH the full ability to eat all foods again including nightshades, eggs, dairy and wheat. No more swelling, pain or stiffness. Back into perfect health purely through food alone. I was able to dive deeper into explaining the process behind what I believe to be the gold standard of treatment with an Ancestral food only approach. The key concept behind it all is a combination of Temporary elimination + healing food focus + reintroduction of foods. Itโ€™s the combination of both strategically eliminating AND healing that enables progress towards thriving on all wholefoods. I developed this method through seeing how effective it was with patients over the years in clinic. A lot of popular diets like Carnivore and Paleo completely neglect the concept of rebuilding. Diets like GAPS rush reintroduction of foods and often include triggers. Rebuilding comes from foods that have the capacity to recalibrate the gut wall. These staples are - Broth or stock - Gelatinous cartilage cuts of red meat - Animal fat Only AFTER remission is achieved we then go on to test and reintroduce all food groups. Once the body is thriving on the basics it is able to move forward. Itโ€™s simply a matter of time and correct application before all foods are tolerated. A robust gut can eat broadly and truly Ancestrally. A seasonal, local and properly prepared omnivorous diet. Coming up next I have a post detailing the process Katherine ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
TIMING can be key getting the most out of your Ancestral superfoods. You might be following the latest Ancestral trends like bone broth, sardines, raw milk and beef jerky and overall feeling better. These are popular for a reason, they can make you feel incredible ! But there may also be room for improvement. Old symptoms still niggle at you and youโ€™re not quite sure why? Health can be simple when your foundations are strong. But a slightly shaky foundation needs a little more TLC. A lot of people chase their tail with varied strategies, thinking โ€˜Maybe Il have more bone broth ? More fat ? Less fat ? Try dairy ? Cut dairy ? โ€˜. And then understandably think itโ€™s too hard and that it doesnโ€™t work. It can be overwhelming. One of the best approaches is working on gut health and trialling foods individually ( in my experience itโ€™s typically a matter of time before all foods can be readded back in ). Doing more things isnโ€™t always better, a slow and steady measured approach is always best. This has become obvious to me through my work and testimonies on my page reversing allergies, MCAS, autoimmune conditions like RA, Hashimotoโ€™s, UC and hormonal conditions such as Endo and PCOS. But also in cases where we reverse hayfever, migraines, skin conditions, anxiety. When we reintroduce, we maintain remission / an asymptomatic state because we pay attention to these details. This is why im passionate about diets generally being TEMPORARY ( AIP/ GAPS/ Carnivore etc ). And really encouraging broad Ancestral eating which is what a robust healthy body is capable of thriving on ! Hope you find this helpful. As usual posts are written by me and are based off my clinic and patient findings Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
Breakfast soup is one of the best ways to heal the gut. Warm, easy to digest and lines the gut wall. In the morning your digestive system is nice and empty and ready to take in a warm nourishing meal. A highly effective time of day to include this. Boiled foods are significantly easier to digest than fried items. Youโ€™ll need โ€ขBone broth or stock โ€ขMeat of choice โ€ขVeggies โ€ขFat โ€ขSalt Highly customisable depending on where you are at on your journey โ€ขCook time can be adjusted to suit histamine needs โ€ขFat type and quantity can be adjusted based off absorption/ tolerance โ€ขVegetables can be alternated all the way from basics like pumpkin and zucchini to harder to digest items like tomato and potatoes โ€ขMeat cuts can be alternated from poultry to fish to varied beef and lamb cuts Sensitive damaged guts will typically need care with a low cook time, less fat and vegetable limitations. As the gut heals and the body strengthens these things can be adjusted again to suit your new needs and desires. My favourite thing about this for my clients is that itโ€™s very quick and easy. Between pressure cooking or slow cooking the base ( set and forget ) and a quick vegetable chop. With the right preparation itโ€™s a 5-10 minute situation to put this together. It really leaves you with no excuses to skip breakfast or choose a less than ideal option eg. Cereal. Breakfast is incredibly important when healing, it lowers cortisol, signals safety to the body by preventing a fasted state and provides more carries and sustained energy needed for repair. Give it a go and let me know what you think Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
Soup changed my life in many ways. I swear by starting my mornings with a warm nourishing Ancestral style soup. Being Eastern European ( Belorussian ) by heritage I grew up on soup as a regular childhood meal. From chicken to beef to fish soup. We had a tradition, every single Saturday of my childhood and teen years we used our sauna as a family and had a brothy soup afterwards ( my health conscious parents still keep the tradition alive between themselves, how cool ). I was reintroduced to broth from a healing lens at 18 when my GAPS nutritionist at the time taught me to make it. Back 15 years ago there was no store bought bone broth concentrates or even much information online. I still remember failing my first batch. I kept all the fat on and made it with marrow bones which led to basically drinking a cup of fat and being violently ill (oh dear ). Since then Iโ€™ve mastered the art of a perfect stock or broth and soup. Iโ€™ve hacked my way through prepping it in a way where itโ€™s quick and easy. On weekends I batch make enough for the week ahead, and put it in my chest freezer ( next to my whole regenerative cow ha! ). Itโ€™s just part of my life and routine not something I โ€˜ have to doโ€™. Consistency over time makes these things normal and habitual. I swear by my daily soup. Having maintained my results for so long, I notice the benefits across the board from a robust gut to healthy ageing to hair and skin quality to gym recovery to immunity and vitality. In the morning it takes me under 10 minutes to get breakfast ready. I wake up, do my red light therapy, head off to the local park to ground and pray and Iโ€™m back home for breakfast before I get ready and start consultations. Soup is foundational on all my prescribed protocols. Many ex carnivore and keto dieters come to me after eating BBQ steak for so long, and finally on protocols with a focus on gentle soups they begin to come full circle. In my opinion soup is the bridge between restrictive diets and broad Ancestral eating. Soup is easy to digest, rebuilds the gut lining and restores vitality. If thereโ€™s one meal that I would pick as a staple - this would be it ! Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
Are you needing some inspiration and strength on your own healing journey ? Healing can feel like a lonely path, stepping into something unfamiliar but new and very exciting. Others experiences build confidence and give reassurance, they serve as a reminder of what is possible when we choose ourselves. We have a community here of people just like you. Natalie @fernvale_acres has kindly shared her story with us, about healing on a My Proper Nutrition Ancestral protocol. She overcame her Stage 3 kidney disease diagnosis, chronic digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, weight loss resistance, joint pain and overall lack of vitality. As a working mum, wife, regenerative farmer and homesteader, she truly is an example of what it means to very much combine living a busy life and heal at the same time. From meal prepping to writing down to do lists her dedication was inspiring. I met Natalie years ago, and I am in awe of who I see today. Yes the physical transformation is remarkable. The radiant skin, shiney hair, presence and sparkle in her eye. The healthy kidneys, gut, hormones. But itโ€™s the personal transformation that really touches me. The confidence, the emotional and spiritual growth and the alignment. I believe health is the gateway to finding our true selves and our life path. Our purpose begins within us. When we are healthy, grounded and connected we see and embody it naturally. One thing I see in many of my successful cases, those who heal the most efficiently, choose to be kind and lean into loving themselves and others well. Natalie is one of those rare special people who radiates warmth and a pure heart. I hope she inspires you Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
Graces weekly meal prep while healing ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป Grace has transformed her health, healing eczema, acne, histamine issues and digestive issues ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป As we have progressed through the journey Grace has been able to tolerate high histamine foods, harder to digest vegetables, dairy and fats. Her previous triggers have faded away as sheโ€™s moved from strength to strength. While being busy mum of two, her dedication and discipline has been next level. She has continuously prioritised her and her families health with complete devotion. Meal prep is a major part of her success, a great no excuse way to ensure that a week of eating flows smoothly. Healing doesnโ€™t have to be complicated, no fancy recipes and 20 ingredient combinations. A few hours of meal prep enables meals to be a 10-15 minute affair. Some of our staples include - Gut sealing meat stock - Slow cooked cuts of meat - Easy to digest vegetables - Fermented foods - Organs and marrow My advice is to set aside a few hours on the weekend and batch cook. A pressure cooker is a great way to cut down on time. Prepped food can be easily frozen into ziplock bags or containers. Happy meal prepping for gut healing ! Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_

Lillyโ€™s story - reversing Hashimotoโ€™s, Endometriosis and PCOS on a Proper Nutrition Ancestral Protocol๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป Lilly came to me understandably upset and frustrated about her state of health, a series of events led to her escalating health issues crippling her day to day life. She wanted to find root cause solutions. Lilly resonated with Ancestral principles and connected to the research behind leaky gut/ gut microbiome and both Hashimotoโ€™s and Endometriosis/PCOS. She was drawn to and trusted my approach. We got working right away on an Ancestral tailored treatment protocol to start to bring her body into alignment. As we made win after win, weight stabilisation, normal bowel function, normal thyroid levels, pain free periods - I felt honoured to have such a dedicated, hardworking and devoted client. To say I feel proud of what we have achieved as a team, is an understatement. Some of the key areas we addressed during treatment were addressing adequate calories and portions, increasing tolerance and volume of animal fats in meals, eating more dense satiating meals and avoiding ketosis. Unlearning food rules and negative nutrition propaganda about animal foods, becoming comfortable with eating red meat daily, removing sugar cravings by shifting the gut microbiome. We worked on sealing the leaky gut wall via a tailored base diet paying attention to needs around broth and food structure, temporarily removing autoimmune trigger foods such as ( eggs/ dairy/ nightshades/ gluten ). Deep rest and nervous system regulation, emotional and spiritual alignment. Gentle properly timed detoxification of heavy metals and foreign substances. And of course extras such as circadian alignment, sleep, hydration. Today Lilly stands as a healthy, strong and empowered young woman. Ready to start preparing her body to go to the next level of peak health for an optimal pregnancy and an exciting future ahead. I hope this brings hope and light - to know that the possibility of turning oneโ€™s life around exists. Kat ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป by @mypropernutrition_
