I’m very excited to be working with @trepanierbaer Gallery!! 👀⚡️🌝✨Link in bio.

“TrépanierBaer is delighted to announce the representation of Ashleigh Bartlett.

Ashleigh Bartlett’s (she/her) art practice is informed by a fascination with abstraction and questions that arise from the historical trajectory of painting. Her studio process involves developing a visual language through quotation, collage and translation.

Bartlett has shown her work across Canada and in the USA. Her work has been exhibited at YYZ Artists’ Outlet (Toronto, CA), Montréal Museum of Fine Arts (Montréal, CA), Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (Kitchener, CA), Ortega y Gasset Projects (Brooklyn, USA), Five Points Gallery, (Torrington, USA), and was included in the 2015 Future Station: Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art. Her collaborative projects with Jessica Groome have been exhibited in the Re-Happening at the historic Black Mountain College campus (Asheville USA), at the Kamloops Art Gallery (Kamloops, CA) and Felt Galleri (Bergen, Norway).

She is the recipient of the Alberta Lieutenant Governor’s Emerging Artist Award, and a finalist in the 16th RBC Painting Competition. Bartlett has received several grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work has been collected by Global Affairs Canada, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Royal Bank of Canada, and Scotia Bank, including numerous private collections. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph.

Bartlett has participated in numerous international residencies including, Eastside International ESXLA (Los Angeles, USA), Elmo’s House (Philippines) and Tao Hua Tan (China). Bartlett lived in Boston, USA, where she conducted research and focused on her practice for four years, before returning to Mohkinstsis (Calgary), where she currently maintains her studio practice and teaches at the Alberta University of the Arts.”

so long, summer.😭🫶🏽 by @mysocalledbartlett

☁️☁️☁️ i’m rarely successful in reworking a zombie failure (!) this painting started two summers ago with the moon. This piece reignited my faith in breathing new life into old work. Even if my 4 year old told me in the studio that she “felt nothing, mom” when she saw it. 😆 (The honesty:the cruelty, I’m obsessed with her studio visits.) 🎭 This is the first large painting translated from my diorama & paper collages this summer. It was such a pleasure to work on it slowly, with the smallest brush possible. xox

I work through ideas in my diorama like a sketchbook. Interesting micro macro relationships developing, new themes emerging, leaning into translation, landing on collage & so so much play. 🌝 Glitch at the end!

🌝😛during a studio visit with Jess over the weekend, we spent time with my sketchbook- this is the most casual sb I’ve kept. I love drawing on the floor with my kids, and letting them draw in and over everything in there. it feels like a magical way to time travel. I never share this kind of thing! I’m going to be using these doodles in an upcoming project. thanks for an amazing visit @millennial_matisse, and for your generosity. 💚💚

The colours in this painting shift so much in the light I needed to spend time with it outside. 🌞This work developed from a collage & then became much stranger! I’ve been inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s unusual perspectives/worm’s-eye view, as well as her Jack-in-the-Pulpit series. 🌱💚

Feeling all the moon magic over here. 🌝🌱✨This painting is based on a collage from earlier in the year, but it also took on a life of its own and turned out so much differently than I expected. I’ve been working on black gesso, dry brushing, using line, stencils and working at different speeds. It’s so nice to be back in the studio everyday.

I began this duo in the winter & completely abandoned them. With some luck, magic & persistence, they turned out. Sometimes the studio is full of surprises. 🌝✨

Superimposition Series

Part of a collaborative project between Ashleigh Bartlett @mysocalledbartlett and Sarah Nordean @queensardean

We began the Exchange Project in the winter of 2025 with two initial paintings. We pass our works back and forth, responding to each other in turn. Each iteration pulls previous gestures into new configurations.

We will be presenting our project at the Works-in-Progress conference this Friday, April 24 at @albertauarts, and as part of the Faculty Exhibition April 22-26.

✨Mixed media and collage on paper, from my ongoing collaborative project with @queensardean. ✨To collaborate is to enter into another’s logic, to sit inside the ambiguity of partial understanding, to be interrupted and redirected.✨

Sarah and I are looking forward to presenting our project at the Works in Progress Conference and Exhibition next week at AUArts.
