ISU Main Offices (re)open today at the New World Gallery (5-8pm) and I couldn't help but write my curatorial statement as a kind of letter. I know, it's long (so thank you in advance if you read the whole thing!). it's been 8 months of work alongside @misaelsoto, who was my professor at first and then trusted this guy to share the curatorial process of this project, now friends at last. thank you for always being game to excavate, to find (or get confused), to go back to the drawing board, but most importantly, to play. i had the time of my life building this thing! i hope you all come visit (y)our offices for (y)our Student (Re)Orientation tonight! the ISU's been waiting for you 🤍 by @nachob.art
Living Networks is one of many celebrations for the 40th anniversary of New World School of the Arts! It’s been my pleasure co-curating this saloon style exhibition with O. Gustavo Plascencia, Dean of Visual Arts.(@ogplascencia ) Please come celebrate the artists of the last 4 decades and coming back together for one huge celebration! 60 artists, 80 works, and a connection still living through each artist. . . nwsArts! The exhibition features work by alumni and current students, along with materials drawn from the NWSA archives, creating a dialogue between past and present generations of artists. Artworks highlight the evolution of artistic practices, pedagogical approaches, and creative communities over time. The exhibition activates these artifacts as living documents to reveal the enduring influence of the institution and its cultural legacy that continues to shape the local and broader contemporary art ecosystem. Learn more and apply now at the link in our bio We look forward to working with you! by @nachob.art
Materializing to the public for the very first time, out from under the commons the ISU Main Offices were presented in an exhibition context within the New World Gallery and structured as a month-long installation of our working office spaces. Highlights included the Waiting Area with Onboarding Video and student artwork, our Conference Room with kitchen, University Relations collecting student feedback, a Quiet Room for rest, the Resident Artist’s Studio, and—at the heart of the office—our Exhibition Space featuring rotating work by present and former students. by @nachob.art
Since (re)opening its doors on August 22nd, the ISU Main Offices hosted over 10 public programs, and featured 7 exhibitions by current or former students. This, in addition to daily interactions with our members (ie. students) such as our artist in residence, guided tours, or simply everyday use of the space. With this series of opportunities for audience interaction, the offices have acted as an institutional assessment tool, archival activation, data gatherer, and test ground for future change. by @nachob.art
