Abuja became part of the story as the Jojo and the Winning Play country-wide tour brought literacy and American football together in a shared experience.

Students discovered the values behind the game and connected with a story that makes flag football, teamwork and possibility accessible beyond the field.

The Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA) joined @usinnigeria at the American Center, Abuja, for a watch party celebrating the NFL's historic Paris matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints.

Beyond enjoying the game, we used the opportunity to introduce attendees to Jojo and the Winning Play, our storytelling initiative harnessing the power of football and literacy to inspire young people and create new connections with the game.

Introducing SHINE: Where sport meets opportunity for girls to thrive.

The Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA), through Gridiron GEMS, has officially launched SHINE, a one-year sport-for-development programme set to empower over 1,000 adolescent girls across five states: Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Imo and the Federal Capital Territory, through flag football, mentorship, leadership, digital skills and education-to-employment pathways.

At the launch, Nancy Damhindi, Gridiron GEMS Coordinator and NAFA Vice President, Administration, highlighted SHINE’s vision of equipping girls with the skills, confidence and opportunities to thrive on and off the field.

Supported through SESLA with partners and affiliates including Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the International Olympic Committee through Olympism365, Laureus Sport for Good and Comic Relief, SHINE is building pathways for girls to grow, lead and shape their future.

Sport becomes truly powerful when its impact extends beyond the final whistle. When young people are given the right environment to learn, lead and grow, the field becomes a starting point for possibilities that reach far beyond the game.

At NAFA, this is the bigger picture we continue to build towards.

Jojo has touched down in Oyo State!

The Jojo and the Winning Play Country-Wide Tour stopped at Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan and the reception was impressive.

At NAFA, we believe a child who reads about the game will want to play it and a child who plays will want to keep learning. That’s literacy, education and sport development moving together.
