What a profound honor to stand in the glow of a lifelong sisterhood with my sister (Wellesley alum), celebrating my dear friend, Lulu C. Wang.

Seeing Lulu’s lifetime of impact crowned with this achievement—and presented by her cherished classmate, Hillary Rodham Clinton—reminds us all of what it means to lead with grace, to inspire and to uplift one and another with confidence across a lifetime. #lulucwang @hillaryclinton @wellesleycollege @asiasociety @asiasocietyhk @metmuseum by @najalockwood

Chinh H. Pham is an attorney and former President of the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys (NCVAA) and a leader within the Boston Vietnamese American community. “For my parents and their generation, I don’t think they’ve healed…” by @najalockwood

Few people leave a footprint on your heart quite like Nhan. Growing up in Hue, Vietnam, without electricity until middle school, his journey to becoming Harvard’s Vietnamese language instructor is a testament to pure resilience. Beyond his academic dedication, it is Nhan’s profound kindness, unshakeable optimism, and legendary homemade pineapple tea that make him truly unforgettable!

From Nhan:
I always start my courses by reminding the heritage students of my purpose of teaching the class is to accompany them in learning about their cội nguồn, bản sắc and di sản. I approach this etymologically. And I see these elements in the film, On Healing Land, Birds Perch.

1. Cội nguồn - origin: cội is the root of the trees, nguồn is the source of a river. Finding out one’s cội nguồn is to learn what has formed, created and developed in your family traditions.

2. Di sản - heritage: di is to move (di chuyển), sản is treasure (tài sản); it means the country’s, family’s treasure is moved from one generation to the next one.

3. Bản sắc - identity: bản is original, sắc is color. Your identity is your original color. How do you find out your identity - true color as Americans with Vietnamese root.

My course is to help the students better understand the culture and use the Vietnamese language to ask meaningful questions to their grandparents, parents, relatives to find out these 3 aspects on their own.

And I’m so thankful that your documentary “Đất lành, chim đậu” helps my students at Harvard and MIT to learn more of their cội nguồn, di sản and bản sắc in a meaningful way. by @najalockwood

$What a wonderful turnout for our screening at Harvard , with so many undergraduate and graduate students and professors, along with MIT, Tufts, UMass, BU, BC, Northeastern, Leslie College, and even Boston Latin! Touched to see leaders within the Boston Vietnamese -American community returning for a second viewing. And to have a blessing from Vietnamese Buddhist monks of Harvard Divinity School in attendance brought comfort, healing and peace to many. Thank you Harvard University for your kind support with HVA (Harvard Vietnamese Association), Harvard Vietnamese Language Center and Asia Center. These past few days at Harvard have been a sanctuary of healing. Sharing our film to a full house with such soulfulness in community discussions at Q&A , walking into the familiar halls of Phillips Brooks House with old friends, and witnessing the vibrant energy of HVA students and their dedicated professors brought me full circle. Harvard was where I first met empowered Asian Americans including Vietnamese Americans as a teenage Vietnamese woman and refugee. Returning here reminds me that even when the world fractures under the recent weight of hardship and betrayal, we can still hold fast to our dignity and integrity. There is still a persistent grace in human kindness and our highest calling remains unchanged: to treat all with basic dignity and to be willing to stand up and leave this world a better place for the generations to follow. @harvardvietassociation @harvardvietnam @harvardasiacenter @emr_harvard @cndyphn @mindyphan.png @pbha @pbhaeac @neivsa by @najalockwood$

We are proud to announce that On Healing Land, Birds Perch (Đất Lành Chim Đậu) has secured educational distribution across the United States and Canada.

The film will integrate into the Vietnam War curricula, inviting students to examine the war’s aftermath through the lens of intergenerational trauma, memory, healing, and reconciliation. Notably, this marks the first entry in the syllabus to focus entirely on Vietnamese perspectives from all sides—including Vietnamese Americans—while enriching existing narratives from American veterans. It serves as a vital catalyst for necessary conversations surrounding inherited trauma, its children of war, and its enduring aftermath. Professors and educators of Vietnamese studies, Vietnamese American and Asian American studies can request the film and its syllabus. Friends who work in the university space can make formal requests with their campus to have the film in your library. Please let your alma mater know. The product page is live here both in the bio and comment section for you to link to. Please help us spread the word! by @najalockwood
