🙏Wow, such an incredible day today. On 11/11, I announced that I wrote and published @howwegotherejournal AND today 2/2/22, I wake up, the day after Lunar New Year, to see myself on the front page of Long Beach Press-Telegram Grunion Gazette! This is truly a DREAM. I have spent almost half my life in Long Beach, since I moved here at 18 to go to @csulongbeach and I would have never imagined, ever in my life, that I would be featured in an article written by Gary Metzker, CSULB professor & four time Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and reporter. THIS is just so surreal and I have so much gratitude for today and this moment. I'd love for you all to check out this article, it is so well written and really shows my personality, intentions and voice. Thank you! 💫🙏 by @nancyluong17

🌊 Woke up feeling extra BLUEEE today!!! In the best way possible!!!! 🦋💙 by @nancyluong17

✨ Had such a fun time being a judge at the CSULB American Marketing Association @csulongbeach @amalongbeach’s Shark Tank event. Students pitched their ideas on how to run their “new business” with their innovative product. They presented us with a marketing strategy and outlined their business and I got to be a Shark Tank judge 👩‍⚖️ with asking them questions and scoring their presentations. They did soooo well and I am so proud of how quickly they worked together to come up with their ideas and showcased it to everyone!! The next generation of leaders right here!!!! Thank you for having me, so fun!!!! 🎉 by @nancyluong17

👑 A few years ago I was crowned as Ms. Southern California 2023 when I entered the Long Beach pageant. I signed up 1 hour before and only told one friend who came to support me. I couldn’t believe I won and she couldn’t either bc when they announced my name she was filming me and dropped her phone from shock. So sadly I don’t have any footage of me saying wtf!!!! When I won!!! 😹

I didn’t know anything about pageants the only thing I ever watched was Miss Congeniality and let’s just say I am Sandra Bullock’s character in that movie. The clueless one that got help from the other women there. 😂 and I honestly was so shocked how supportive all the other women competing were. You would think it’d be catty and competitive but not this pageant (I mean come on it’s in Long Beach so you know the vibes are supportive and chill)!!

This pageant organized by @rudd.justin is different, it’s about giving back and the titleholders are selected by what they care about and stand for - not how beautifully aesthetic they are from a societal POV. It’s about their hearts.

I had the best time in my year serving our Long Beach community with all the volunteer work I did and my fave part out of my year was making such close girlfriends I still love so much.

The pageant is this Saturday 10/7 and I will be in there cheering on the women!! My fave thing to do!!! See you there!! 💃✨ by @nancyluong17

🙏 A proud day for me!! I have been training for @hyroxworld and so excited to be doing this with my bestie @amanglona !! It a goal I have for before I turn 40 and it is NOT EASY!!!! In today’s Luong training since (see everything we did in pic 2 as partners) I had so many thoughts in my mind from: ok you got this, dude you’re crazy, was this really a good idea, you’re so strong, I can’t do this, I’m gonna yak 😹, it’s ok I think I got this, if I finish this I’m going to celebrate this milestone.

I think the most proud part of this all is that I am training for something so challenging in the best, safe, healthy way for my body and mind. I am not going extreme 0 to 100 (like how my old brain worked) and I am listening to my body. My ego likes to debate with my body. It’s like girl push yourself and my body is like hey chill, recover, relax and continue to train when you feel good again.

So this isn’t just a race to accomplish. It’s a journey to honor my body, to build my strength from the actual workouts to saying hey let’s rest which is strength for me to surrender, and to also fuel my body properly.

Today was a huge milestone because my partner Tina, (who I am so grateful for, since Amber isn’t here she was able to do this with me) finished the practice race that is almost identical in 1.5 hours and I am sooo proud.

We are 5 weeks out and I have been soooo nervous but today I feel more confident of what I am capable of. I have gratitude for my body and health and also @j_nukes for his coaching. What a day!!!!! 💪🏃‍♀️🏋️‍♀️ by @nancyluong17

👻 IYKYK. The weeks before strategizing costumes to making them.. to wearing high heels 👠 in our costumes with a solo cup in hand. Every year we out did ourselves and it was beyond fun and wild!!! Now all mom friends are tamed trick or treating w their kids and non mom friends are like nah it’s cool!!!! 😹 no fomo !! by @nancyluong17

🎃 2005 Millennial Me Starter Kit!! 😹 Oh Halloween 2000s was the vibe!! It was the era where thankfully memories were only on a canon digital camera.. no evidence anywhere… EXCEPT when you would wake up hungover the next morning, pull out your laptop and log onto Facebook. You were tagged in 100 blurry pics.. and no you did not get to approve them. They were just posted for anyone to see!! 😆

I don’t even remember anyone complaining or being like take that down!! It was more like 😅 but oh well!! 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s bc we just didn’t care, life was not on our smartphones that didn’t exist yet and us millennials were just wild to say the least. No cares in the world. Spontaneous, multi tasked (party one night wake up to work, workout, study and powered through), and we somehow knew where an any event was and got there without Ubers existing.

Halloween was always an adventure, we had the craziest costumes, and we even went to UCSB every Halloween IYKYK. !! Crazy times!!

But being a millennial in the 2000s was just so special and nostalgic to us now, bc it’s a time capsule of being free: no judgement: care: worry and prob just an era we all needed to get “out of our system.” That’s why millennials are chill now 😹 and eat organic; and tired. Bc we did enough in a span of 10 years to cover the rest of our lives.

So here is Millennial Starter Pack, a time to remember !!
Happy HOLLA Ween Boo!! 👻✨ by @nancyluong17

✨ I truly believe everyone in your life is there for a season, a reason or a lifetime.

As someone who LOVES and values my friends, I’ve noticed how much my relationships have changed in my 30s. I’ve lost some friends, made new ones and have learned SO much about myself along the way.

I think as we evolve and change, sometimes the people around us do too. There are so many reasons why this happens. Our lifestyles, beliefs, values, schedules.

I think losing friendships can be sad but I also know that sometimes we grow in different directions and the friendship just doesn’t serve us in the same way it used to anymore. And that is OKAY!!!!

I’ve learned that not everyone is meant to be in every chapter of our lives and that doesn’t mean we need to change who we are to keep them there.

So keep being YOU. Do NOT DIM YOUR LIGHT or make yourself smaller to make others comfortable. When you are yourself, the right ppl will always be around you. ✨💓 by @nancyluong17

🥹 I can’t believe I’ve been sober now for over 900 days. My world used to revolve around drinking for most of my life.

Drinking made me feel comfortable. Like I could be MYSELF. It helped me have fun, cope with my stress, helped my anxiety, and eventually helped me escape my own thoughts.

Every bday in my 20s and 30s I’d go to a winery because I loved being able to drink starting at 10am. Every vacation I went on I loved having my first drink at the airport. Every social event I went to I loved hitting the bar.

It made me feel fun (cocktails), it made me feel bougie (wine and champagne), it made me feel free (tequila shots), and it made me feel happy (all above).. until it didn’t.

For me to make this decision, which took many years on and off trying to stop.. is a big deal to me. I decided to stop drinking.. bc I wanted to truly be myself. And to love that version of me. Wholeheartedly. Emotions, imperfections and all. I wanted to live every moment being present. 💓

I remember the day I was sober for 9 days and how that was a huge win for me.. so 900 days later. Im proud of how far I’ve come and continue to. I never thought this would be possible. But it is. 🥲

Cheers to this milestone and taking it one day at a time... Not with just this but with Life itself. I am proud and I am grateful. 🙏✨ by @nancyluong17
