When you first start working with a manufacturers, nobody tells you what to ask, what to get in writing, or what a factory expects from you before you start. So most founders make mistakes and find out the expensive way. My Supplier Sourcing Masterclass changes that. In one hour Iā€™ll take you through how to find the right factories, what to ask before you sample, how to read a quote, and how to stay in control of the process. Three of the founders Iā€™m working with now to launch brands in 2027, all started with this masterclass. It gave them the grounding to know what to expect from the process of getting a collection made, so they could plan timelines and budget realistically to hit the ground running. Iā€™ll be live online tomorrow night, Tuesday 3 November, at 6.30pm. Spaces are limited and last time we sold out, so grab your ticket now via the link in my bio. Or comment MASTERCLASS and get the link in your inbox. #fashionstartup #fashionmanufacturing #clothingmanufacturer #startafashionbrand #fashionbrandowner by @natalie_binns
I could sell you my manufacturer list but thereā€™d be no guarantee the manufacturers on it would even take your order. Because thereā€™s much more to finding the right supplier for your fashion brand than having a named contact to reach out to. Suppliers are judging whether they want to work with you from that very first introduction, so you need to get it right. I created my Supplier Sourcing Masterclass to teach new founders my exact strategies to source manufacturers, find the right fit, start a long term partnership and avoid expensive mistakes. Early bird ends tonight, so secure your seat at the link in my bio or comment MASTERCLASS to get the link straight to your inbox ā˜ŗļø by @natalie_binns

Supplier A might be better on paper, but Supplier B is more consistent with communication, which do you choose? Thatā€™s the kind of nuance that gets missed when youā€™re trying to follow generic information. A course doesnā€™t know your margins. ChatGPT canā€™t tell you whether your factory is overcharging you, because itā€™s never seen your samples. Over 20 years and hundreds of founders, Iā€™ve been through pretty much every scenario a new brand can throw at me. So when you come to me with a problem, Iā€™m not giving you the textbook answer. Iā€™m telling you what to do, in your situation, based on what Iā€™ve watched work and fail a hundred times before. Thatā€™s the difference between information and someone who knows how to use it. If youā€™re pre-launch and youā€™d rather not make the expensive decisions on your own, Iā€™m taking on new founders in October. Whether you need hands-on support including supplier sourcing, or advisory support to keep you on track, book a discovery call (link in bio) and weā€™ll work out what fits. by @natalie_binns
High street / fast fashion brands would love you to think they have ā€˜no choiceā€™ but to use polyester, particularly when it comes to satin fabrics that would be very expensive made from silk. In fact the word ā€˜satinā€™ has been a synonym for shiny polyester fabric, when it actually describes a type of weave that can be made from natural or plant based materials. Let me introduce you to three alternatives to polyester satin: 1. Acetate satin 2. Viscose satin 3. Tencel satin All are more breathable than polyester and arenā€™t made from fossil fuels. So no, brands donā€™t have to use polyester as much as they claim they do, especially not huge brands like M&S who have huge buying power. Itā€™s a choice. A choice that much smaller brands donā€™t make. So letā€™s not make excuses for them. Besides, this dress would have been so much nicer in a lightweight cotton voile and much more fit for purpose for a summer of heatwaves. by @natalie_binns
Clothing has never been so affordable. Itā€™s so cheap people can overconsume at a pace landfills canā€™t keep up with. Take the phenomenon of the Uniqlo banana bag, deemed ā€˜affordableā€™ because at Ā£14.90*, you can buy it in several different colours to match every outfit. (*Or even less if you buy the ā€˜dupeā€™ from TikTok shop or Amazon). ā€˜Affordableā€™ when it comes to fashion, now means you can buy as much as you want whenever you want, without really thinking about it. And the problem is, every brand is benchmarked to this level of affordability. Launch a collection of good quality, ethically made clothing and it will be called ā€˜unaffordableā€™ because people canā€™t afford to buy one of everything. Iā€™m tired, because this artificially cheap clothing comes at the cost of the people who make it, people who will never be able to afford it themselves. And thatā€™s before you get to the overproduction and cheap fossil fuel-based fibres. When was the last time you saved up for a piece of clothing? We used to do it all the time. Now the whole systemā€™s designed so we never have to, and I donā€™t think thatā€™s made us happier or better dressed. So thatā€™s why I get a bit twitchy when someone says they want to build an affordable brand. Iā€™m not your person if you want to create cheap and instant. But if you want to build something people choose on purpose, something they wait for, save for and then keep for years, repair, rewear and pass on, thatā€™s exactly what I help founders do. Sourcing the right suppliers can make or break your brand.. Iā€™ve spent 20 years in fashion sourcing, and trade shows are still one of the best ways to find the right suppliers for your brand. For new founders in particular starting with a face-to-face relationship makes all the difference, but narrowing down the search can feel a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. If you donā€™t know what you should even be looking for, thatā€™s exactly where I come in. ā€˜Expert In Your Pocketā€™ 1:1 mentoring gives you expert eyes on your sourcing decisions from day one. Comment EXPERT and Iā€™ll send you the details šŸƒšŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø by @natalie_binns
