POSTS STORIES REELS

Coming back from a trip in #Montana. No words can describe the experience. Every moment of the day was another photo worthy moment, I must have taken thousands of photos 🤭 a truly majestic place, never had i seen anything as beautiful and breathtaking.
Will be sharing shortly! by @natalie_shmuel

Did some "spring cleaning" before the new year came and donated books to @booksbeyondbarsny via the @freebirdbooks shop in Brooklyn! This organization distributes donated books to prisons throughout NY.
Don't ever throw away your books, these are valuable resources that can be passed down to someone else. I chose to give to prisons because this is where I feel they can do the most good. Who knows, maybe it will inspire someone to one day pick up the camera? 🙏

Encourage you to do the same, its easy to drop them off. Tip: They don't accept hardcovers, and the most popular request is for comic books/ graphic novels, and books that teach skill/trade and/or self-help.

The #books i donated included mostly film books, as well as philosophy, history and a handful of fiction novels.

What a great honor for @filmunderground_ to collaborate with @festofcinemanyc. We screened eleven short films at the Regal Cinema in Queens, no submission fees for filmmakers, as per the Underground creed.

Special thanks to @natalie_shmuel for coordinating and @jayson_simba to having faith in us. And most of all thanks to the filmmakers who shared their work with us.

See you all at the next.

Long live the Underground! by @natalie_shmuel

World Premiere is tomorrow, Nov 14 @ 9:30pm at @docnycfest ❤️
Here's some BTS photos from when we were diving into @realharleyflanagan personal archives at the very beginning, pictured with director @rexpixfilm + producer @lauraleeflanagan. My favorite part of Archival Producing is getting into the personal archives + family albums. Those are the rarest treasures you will find that enhances the doc experience 🕵️‍♀️

"Harley Flanagan: Wired for Chaos"
From his harsh childhood in the burnt-out Lower East Side, musician Harley Flanagan burst onto the punk music scene at age 11 as drummer for his aunt’s band, the Stimulators. The founder of the Cro-Mags tells his inconceivable story, with interviews with hard rockers and icons like Flea, Ice-T, Henry Rollins, Michael Imperioli, and surprising guests. Featuring gritty footage of NYC’s downtown 1970s and ’80s music scene, this passionate film showcases Harley’s against-the-odds transformation from chaos to peace, driven by music, family, and personal growth

🌟We've got a film premiere at DOC NYC! 🌟
I worked with this team as an Archival Producer Consultant to get their archival workflow going. For the last few weeks we've been finalizing the archival. This doc is filled with amazing materials - from Harley's personal collections, to the documentation of early punk music and culture, as well as 70s-80s NYC #LES.

📷 #2-3 by yours truly ❤️ when I got to experience my 1st #cromags show while working on this film 😊

This book has become one of my top 5 favorite reads! 🌟 Highly recommend, these essays cover so much and are so insightful. There's even one written by Paul Schrader!

Gangster films are my favorite genre, so much can be learned through them about our society and history - even about genres that came after.
Especially loved reading about how 1930s gangster films evolved to Film Noir in such a fascinating way - the early iconic gangster actors 'switch sides' to play detectives and cops, much of it due to correction by the higher order of film censorship boards at the time.

Anyway, curious to hear what your favorite gangster films are! My #1 is James Cagney's "The Roaring Twenties" (Raoul Walsh, 1939), one of the few films we get to see him go head to head with the great Humphrey Bogart 🥰. Must watch!!

Mickey Leigh; author, “I Slept with Joey Ramone.” Mickey is the younger brother of Joey Ramone (real name Jeff Hyman), and his connections to the iconic band are too numerous to mention. Chief is “caring baby bro”. The Ramones were all from Forest Hills and Mickey had amazing stories to tell. Interviewed at the West Side Tennis Club. #foresthillshistories #mickeyleighnyc #theramones #theramonesforever #theramonesofficial #foresthillsstadium #foresthillsgardens #foresthillsqueens #natalieshmuel by @natalie_shmuel

Last week my team and I made the cover story of my hometown's newspaper The Forest Hills Times (yes this is an overdue post! Lol).
We are making a film about Forest Hills Stadium, an amazing summer concert venue that many of you have probably either enjoyed or just recently hearing about, but the history and stories are RICH - not only did major icons perform here during the 60s-70s, but it also used to be the tennis mecca of the world from the 1920s-70s.
Grateful for the press and excitement this is already getting 🙏

Over the weekend @scriptmagazine published an article about what my work as an Archival Producer entails. I'm so grateful to @richmonetti for writing such a great piece, and even surprising me with his own research skills 😉
