Sharareh Aghaei is an Iranian jewellery artist based in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Born in Tehran, she studied Art and Craft at the Art University of Tehran before working professionally as a freelance goldsmith. She later continued her studies in Gemstones and Jewellery at Hochschule Trier, Campus Idar-Oberstein, where she completed her MFA in 2017. Since then, she has worked as a stone carver and jewellery maker.

Her practice focuses on the overlooked and discarded side of the gemstone industry. Precious stones are limited natural resources, yet stones with inclusions, fine cracks, or other natural characteristics are often rejected by the jewellery and luxury industries and left unused. Aghaei collects these discarded materials from carving companies, workshops, and other artists, transforming them into new jewellery pieces. Through upcycling, she gives these stones another chance to reveal their forgotten beauty while questioning conventional ideas of value, perfection, and preciousness.

„Panie” naszyjniki, znaleziony jaspis, haftowanie, 380-420 x 28-35 x 10-15 mm, 2025

Seria podejmuje temat kobiecego ciała jako przestrzeni obciążonej kulturowo, społecznie i politycznie. Różnorodność, asymetria i surowość odnoszą się do mnogości kobiecych piersi wykraczających poza narzucane przez media ideały. Powstaje napięcie pomiędzy archaiczną symboliką a współczesną polityką ciała. To często konfrontuje je z ukrytym podważaniem tożsamości i seksualności.

„Ladies” necklaces, found jasper, embroidery thread, 380-420 x 28-35 x 10-15 mm, 2025

The Ladies series addresses the female body as a space burdened by cultural, social, and political meanings. Abstract forms of breasts have been roughly carved in stone. Their diversity, asymmetry, and rawness refer to the multiplicity of female bodies that exist beyond media-driven ideals. A tension emerges between archaic symbolism and contemporary body politics. How does identity shift when this visible marker of femininity is lost or transformed? Women who lose their breasts, or experience changes to them due to illness, age, or biographical turning points, are often confronted with a latent questioning of their gender identity.

𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗥𝗧
