the rebellion against societal norms that when you actually think about it is so fucking ridiculous to have to rebel against in the first place.

i met women who just existed in their hairiness. didn’t hide it, didn’t apologise for it. and something in me went — oh. we’re allowed to do that?

my legs are hairy and i’m not shaving them to make anyone feel comfortable.

there’s more of this if you stick around

Growing up sensitive meant learning who actually feels safe. Turns out it’s a lot fewer people than I thought. I made peace with that.

Overthinking has been a struggle for me.

I used to try to think my way to feeling better, but thinking is only one part of the picture.

Now when my mind starts spiralling, I drop into my body: feet on the ground, a slow breath, a shake, a little play. Something shifts every time. There’s more space between my thoughts, and more room for my true Self to guide me instead of fear being in the driver’s seat.

That swirling is often a sign your nervous system is in fight or flight. If you’re feeling tense or on edge, try feeling your feet, slowing your breath, or shaking it out.

Next time you are trying to think your way to feeling better, remember that your body is in communication with your brain more than your brain is with your body

Because shrinking meant suppressing my aliveness, the energy inside me that wanted to be set free, to create and be more of ME. And healing required learning to feel safe to be embraced in all that I am and needed to be to feel like the real me

Some ways I stopped shrinking and started living more expressively ~

❤️ dancing for myself, like I would dance as a little kid with headphones in, to find freedom and playfulness inside my body.

❤️ writing in my journal, the dark days, the light days & in between. brain dumping to poetry

❤️ spoke to someone I felt safe with, whatever was on my heart and needed to be witnessed

❤️explored my passions and allowed myself to try on new hats to see what feels like who I could be becoming and followed the breadcrumbs of what lit me up

The level of safety I continue to build within myself grows every day I honour myself.

Wherever I go, I have what I need, and anything outside of me is a bonus I treasure.

When I was without safety within myself, I wasn't able to advocate for my needs and felt disempowered without realising it until looking back.

I would overgive, overcompensate, and feel agitated or frustrated, but I didn't understand it was because my needs weren't being met and I was just trying to stay safe in my environment.

Now I get to go within to find my anchor.

I built safety within myself every time I got curious about what's happening for me; by listening to what I need instead of worrying about disappointing someone, expressing myself and allowing myself to be seen, and by taking my own hand through tough times and coming out the other end with gold I never would have found if I had avoided them.

I can do this because I know how to speak to myself, how to give to myself, and what boundaries I need to protect my peace.

It's never perfect, but it's a choice I get to make for me and so can you ❤️

to understand yourself is to come home to all that you are, and not who you think others might validate & understand

i have been a seeker outside of me, for my worth & for my value

little did i know, seeking for my worth outside of me was only going to leave me feeling more empty

i am the only one who can build the trust between me and myself every time i take a chance on myself and show up on the other side, time and time again

Have you been told you're too much?
Trying too hard?
Too sensitive?
Too expressive?
Too emotional??
Too whatever!!!

Well, babe. You're not. Actually. Be more. Be whatever you need to be that is going to set your soul FREE!

If the people you usually surround yourself with feel suffocating & unsafe to be YOU around... Well, the hard truth is, they're probably not for you — or you need to build your nervous system capacity to hold yourself through the discomfort of more self-expression.

I have been moving through this work slowly over the years, rewriting the stories in my mind & the memories held in my body and it's been the most profound work yet.

I am studying nervous system regulation & emotional processing so I will be sharing more about this here

Stick around for more 💕

Often, the boss is just a feeling that feels too BIG to face.

To feel our emotions is to have an embodied experience. We stay with what’s present in the body just long enough to allow its hello. Not to take over, but to be acknowledged.

Today I was preparing for a performance on stage. My first time ever doing anything like this. I was so scared. I messed up so much of the choreography, and when we got to the end I was in tears. It felt massive. (I’m also about to bleed.)

I chose to let myself FEEL.

This is what I’d been so afraid of: being seen in a completely new way.

I was so drawn to this journey and fully committed, yet I still had to force my way through, and we haven’t even done our first official performance.

This is the messy middle. This is mid-expansion.

After that run-through, I noticed all the clunky and weak areas, practiced, and went up again with a new intention, clearer energy and tighter form. I felt on fire. It was nowhere near perfect, but I was so happy with the progress.

I faced a few bosses today. Wow, I’m proud of myself. by @natasha_marotta

I’ve been trying to belong in spaces with people my whole life, at the cost of fitting in, playing it safe and people pleasing, rather than just being myself, however that looked. I did it as a means of survival, because belonging meant safety.

Fitting in out of fear meant being a version of myself everyone else might like, but not belonging to myself. I was looking for safety in the wrong place.

When I started allowing myself to stand out through authentic self-expression, it triggered (and still triggers) the fear of being rejected. I work through new layers of that fear every time I meet it. But paradoxically, it leads to genuine self-belonging, as I come home to myself.

What a part of me feared most was losing connection, which I thought I could only keep by fitting in. When I’m simply who I am, people are drawn closer. I still need safety to feel like I belong but I’m learning it can start with me and my relationship with myself.

Where do you notice yourself morphing?

❤️‍🔥 Tasha
