Nobody voted for revenge. Parents voted for a plan. 2028, come get the agenda. 👇#parents #momsofinstagram #dadsofinstagram #politics #election2026 by @nationalparentsunion

Congratulations to every new school board member, legislator and governor. Parents have a welcome gift ready: a letter on kids’ data, backed by the 86% of parents who support banning tech companies from harvesting it. Every app, platform and device a district buys ends up in front of students during the school day. Parents want proof that each one keeps kids safe and helps them learn before districts sign the contract. Health inspectors check cafeteria food before it reaches a lunch tray. Parents expect the same care for what reaches kids’ screens.

When we explored the potential benefits and risks of AI for students through the Brookings Global Task Force on AI and Education, I was struck by how rarely families were included in the conversation. Over the past month, I’ve been joining forces with the @nationalparentsunion on a listening tour to ensure that parents are part of the conversation when it comes to AI & tech policies in schools. Swipe through to see when we’re coming to you.

For six years, we’ve been asking parents what’s really going on. Now their answers live in one place. The NPU website has 37 polls and 1,689 questions, all available for free. Nobody has to download a PDF or get past a paywall to access the information.

Reporters can find parent perspectives for their next story. Researchers can track how parent views have shifted over time. Lawmakers and their staff can see what families across the country care about. Parents can see how their concerns compare with everyone else’s.

Parents have skipped right past the AI panic and are asking for a plan. That plan will go through school boards, state legislatures and, in many states, the governor’s office, and a lot of those seats are up for grabs today.

When you go to the polls today, vote for leaders who will write classroom AI rules that keep kids safe and get them ready for the future. Tomorrow, send the winners a letter at MyKidMyData.org so they know what parents expect from day one.

$In 2025, 1 in 4 parents told us they’re struggling to afford basic necessities. NPU President Keri Rodrigues called it a five-alarm fire, and that warning still stands. Kids can’t focus on fractions when the fridge is empty and the rent is late. Families juggling overdue bills and school drop-offs need leaders who see both parts of that picture. Any leader who wants to talk about schools has to talk about family budgets first. Find out more here: nationalparentsunion.org/category/polling by @nationalparentsunion$

A great vision for public education doesn't mean much if nobody acts on it.

That's why our coalition partner EdPwr isn't just publishing a report; they're working directly with state and federal leaders to put into practice the changes we need to make our public schools thrive.

The National Parents Union is proud to be a part of this program. Education is one of the top issues voters care about — 63% say it's one of the most important factors in how they vote for Congress. Leaders should be paying attention, and families should be asking them to.

Tomorrow is Election Day and parents heading to the polls should check to see where every candidate on the ballot stands on one question: “Will you ban tech companies from harvesting kids’ data?” 86% of public school parents support that ban. No other policy we’ve tested has scored higher. Candidates who want parents’ votes should have an answer ready. #Vote #KidsPrivacy #ParentsVsEverybody #Election2026 by @nationalparentsunion

Tech companies, school districts, and lawmakers keep making decisions about AI and tech in our kids’ classrooms, but no one is asking parents for their thoughts. On Friday, 11/6, that changes. Join NPU, Rebecca Winthrop of the Brookings Institution, Alaska Children’s Trust, and the Association of Alaska School Boards for a conversation about what parents are seeing at home and in schools, what’s causing concern, and what kids need in a world shaped by new tech.
