Turn the sound on! 🔊

This is what it really sounded like.

No cinematic soundtrack. No slow motion to stretch the moment. Just tree humpback whales, rough-toothed dolphins and humans completely losing themselves in what was happening in front of them.

We came looking for wildlife.

Instead, for a few minutes, we became witnesses to something much bigger.

This one deserves to be experienced exactly as it happened.

Observing a whale and her newborn calf is a true privilege that requires us to adapt our behavior with utmost care. The presence of a mother and her calf demands heightened attention to their needs and signals. Building trust with these marine giants is delicate; every movement, every approach must minimize stress and ensure their safety.

Whales invest tremendous energy in nurturing their young, teaching them essential survival skills in their natural habitat. During this stage, mothers are particularly vigilant, while calves engage in early learning behaviors: surfacing, breathing coordination, and first attempts at social interaction.

Their presence here reminds us of the importance of these habitats as nurseries, critical for the continuation of their species. This video offers a window into the remarkable adaptations and social bonds of these cetaceans, highlighting the balance between observation and preservation.

As another whale season comes to an end, I feel nothing but gratitude for the moments, the lessons and the trust that comes with guiding people into this world.

RAW moment with a male singer couple days ago.

His voice travels through the water. You don’t just hear it, you feel it!

Moorea isn’t just whales…
it’s also full of other species and life across the reefs and lagoons, like Stingrays and Balcktip reef sharks 🦈

The best encounters happen when you give wildlife the space to come to you, when they want to, and these guys… clearly had no concept of personal space 😂 by @native.expeditions

Does anyone speak whale? 🤣

I can’t watch this video without laughing… The vocals are honestly 10/10 🐋

I have a feeling all the other whales were very impressed.

Two humpback whales surrounded by pilot whales, each animal continuously adjusting its position and behavior in response to the others.

In cetacean behavioral science, interspecific encounters are particularly fascinating because their function is not always obvious. What appears playful to us may involve investigation, communication, competition or something we have yet to understand.

Grateful to have witnessed a moment like this in the wild.

Māuruuru !

Still can’t believe we got to witness this.

After hours of watching them from the surface, we finally got the chance to get in the water and somehow, everything aligned perfectly.

A mother and her calf swimming right past us, with a male following closely behind.
With the reef in the background and all three whales moving together, it felt almost unreal.

Sometimes you wait for hours for a few seconds of magic, and somehow, it makes everything worth it. 🐋

No instructions. Just instinct, curiosity, and a young soul discovering what its body can do.
