Flora and fauna from our trip to Japan 🇯🇵 I loved that little acorn as much as the temple 🥰 by @naturewalkswithamy

Japan Day 8?

We just got back from a day trip to the most beautiful town in the mountains . Gokayama is a UNESCO Heritage site and the houses have thatched roofs which are peaked for snowfall.

The people of Gokayama are also known for their handmade paper and mochi. We made mochi, then made washi paper and saw a traditional folk dance. Of course I had to find a critter.

The town has recently had a bear problem which is what the bells are for. We didn’t see a bear, but I did see this gorgeous grasshopper.
Tomorrow we head to Kyoto, just in time for a typhoon 😳 by @naturewalkswithamy

Honored that my friend @rebeccakatzart chose one of my photos as inspiration for a new series of paintings. Isn’t it wonderful when these connections happen? #cloudlovers #mist #landscapes by @naturewalkswithamy

Great field trip with 3rd graders to the Las Gallinas Ponds. I loved watching the excitement build each time we saw a new bird. #naturewalks #lasgallinasponds #birding by @naturewalkswithamy

Look at the eyes of this butterfly! It looks more like a science fiction creature than the graceful insect fluttering around your garden. The eyes are fascinating though! Their compound eyes are made up of hundreds to thousands of tiny lenses, giving them a remarkably wide field of view—sometimes nearly 360 degrees.
They also see ultraviolet light. Many flowers have UV patterns that guide butterflies toward nectar, and some butterfly wings reflect UV light in patterns that may help with mate recognition.
A white butterfly wing may look plain to us, but to another butterfly, it can be full of signals we’re completely unable to see. #butterflies #lookclosely #naturelover by @naturewalkswithamy

I had just said to my friend Cari, “I really want to see a bear.” Minutes later this happened. #naturewalks #tahoedonner #bear by @naturewalkswithamy
