Hello NCCC family & friends! We are asking for help…a few weeks ago we helped kickstart a major TNR project for a colony of at least 15 cats….we estimated two were pregnant… Anyway, Lisa has been dedicated to trapping these cats and now, we have at least one mom who delivered and she actually got the kittens!! We are so grateful! We’re not sure about the other one at this point… We were able to provide houses as well, so they do have shelter. But we are asking for help with sending food for the adults and the kittens who, we hope will not have to be returned, but as we all know, rescues and shelters are inundated, so we cannot guarantee these kittens will not have to be returned….praying they don’t! We have created an Amazon wishlist (will share link in bio) for Lisa Shuler - if you’re able to send food, we would be so grateful! We understand times are tight, so please remember sharing is caring too!! We appreciate everything and nothing is too small when it comes to caring!! If you’d like to send something not on the list or through another shopping site, please message us and I’ll be sure to get permission to give Lisa’s address to you personally! Thank you and please stay tuned for updates as we get them!! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1QACBD4PY157G?ref_=wl_share by @ncc_cats
We feel lucky to see beautiful Cass - we started with many others in her colony and now there are so few left. We know she misses her BFF Pops 🥺 but hope she continues to thrive in her outside world. The purpose of Feline Facts Friday is to help raise awareness about free-roaming cats in need of care or protection! Benefits of Kitten Food in Winter * Higher Caloric and Fat Density: Kitten food is formulated to support rapid growth, meaning it packs more calories and fat per portion than standard adult cat food, helping feral cats maintain their weight and core temperature. * Rely on Dry Food in Freezing: Dry kitten or adult-kitten mix stays edible longer outdoors Wet food provides great hydration and is easy to digest, but it freezes quickly in sub-freezing weather. * Increased Protein: Higher protein levels support muscle maintenance and overall immune function when cold weather taxes the cats’ physical reserves. Best Practices for Feeding * Mix It In: Rather than switching entirely to kitten food, blend it into the regular adult food (for example, a half-and-half or one-third kitten food ratio) to prevent digestive upset. The purpose of Feline Facts Friday is to help raise awareness about free-roaming cats in need of care or protection! Fall weather is unpredictable. Outdoor cats can start to have issues when the temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, especially if it is wet or windy. The main risk for cats in cold weather is hypothermia and frostbite. The best way to help a stray cat stay warm is to provide them a small, dry, insulated shelter. A small shelter can then be heated by a cats own body heat, and ALWAYS use straw for bedding. https://pethelpful.com/cats/keep-stray-cats-warm-fall Our TNR & Rescue efforts are 100% volunteer! Think about it Thursday! When people fall on hard times, their pets feel it too. Millions of pet owners in the U.S. live in poverty, and one of the leading reasons animals are surrendered to shelters is financial strain — including rental restrictions, vet bills, pet food costs, and unexpected emergencies. If you’re in Luzerne County, PA and you or someone you know is struggling to afford pet food please visit https://bandletlivproject.org/maxsmeals Any where else there are local and national resources offering free pet food, affordable veterinary services, and financial assistance for pet expenses. https://www.humaneworld.org/en/resources/having-trouble-affording-your-pet Please support our mission to bridge the gap between human & animal welfare! The purpose of Feline Facts Friday is to help raise awareness about free-roaming cats in need of care or protection! Cats meow at you for any reason, and some constantly chatter throughout the day. While feral cats may look like regular cats, they behave differently. So do feral cats meow? Feral cats can meow, but they rarely do it. There’s just no point; meowing can expose them to danger in the wild. https://www.catster.com/cat-behavior/do-feral-cats-meow/ Our TNR & Rescue efforts are 100% volunteer! The purpose of Feline Facts Friday is to help raise awareness about free-roaming cats in need of care or protection! While tracking data shows feral cats can log about 1.5 to 3 miles in a single day/night, their actual home territory (straight-line radius) is usually much tighter. Most feral cats stay within 300 meters to 2 miles of a reliable food source or human structure (such as a barn, abandoned building, or colony feeding station). https://news.illinois.edu/researchers-track-the-secret-lives-of-feral-and-free-roaming-house-cats/ Our TNR & Rescue efforts are 100% volunteer!
