I can’t quite comprehend how this little nugget hits the big DIRTY THIRTY today!?!?!?! Seems like just yesterday we were fighting over the remote and what song is playing on the radio in the car. I’m pretty proud of this little one. It’s not every day that you turn 30, and then graduate 2 weeks later with your doctorate. You have accomplished so much little sister, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you! Can’t wait to celebrate you in a few weeks in Chicago!
Keep living those big dreams @kelceycassady, this big brudder loves you!!!

In a few words, last night’s @perfumegenius show was:
Incendiary. Electric. Ingenious. Religious.
I cried on more than one occasion. I felt the music move through me. I saw art unfold in real time.
It was something I’ll hold onto for some-time.

Went to see the man, the mythic legend himself, Sir Elton John last week at Xcel with my mama @memecassady. It was such a surreal experience. I know he’s had more than a handful of farewell tours, but I’m pretty positive this will be his last. I’m beyond grateful I got to experience this show and watch him leave the stage with such grace ❤️ Thank you for the music Captain Fantastic!

Naked walls ready for paint, and a wayward IKEA bookshelf…

Spent my last weekend at @northsuburbanarts doing some volunteer construction work for their new space! I can’t wait to check it out when the space is fully put together later this month!
There’s one more work day coming up this weekend for those interested!! Check out their website: https://www.northsuburbanarts.org/volunteer

Got this beauty today. Thank you @orvillepeck for your amazing music! Can’t wait for Bronco Chapter 2 tomorrow!!!
Begs the question though…are Orville Peck fans called “Peckers”?? 🤔🤔

“From an art gallery no more, to a new art gallery to come…”

I’ve had the privelige over the past few weekends to help @northsuburbanarts pack up one space, and move into their next. Met some fun people, moved more boxes than I care to count, sanded walls, cleaned, and built furniture. All in the name of access to the arts for all!
There’s still time to volunteer too! Check out their website: https://www.northsuburbanarts.org/volunteer by @ndc1212

I honestly don’t know what I would do, or where I would be without these two creatures. They’ve taught me a lot of things in 6 years: patience, forgiveness when they break my things, how to care for something that’s not myself, how to get up on the days I feel too depressed to…because someone’s gotta feed em, and how to love something unconditionally.
They came to me right when we needed each other 6 years ago, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Happy Valentines Day Artemis & Poseidon!!!

State of being.

I know.
It’s hard to be my friend.
I know what I want,
But I have a hard time expressing it.

I’m an odd duck.
An empath.
A dreamer.

I don’t want to talk about boys anymore
Or your friends
Or TV
Or work.

I’m tired of surface conversations
That drown me in the shallow end of existence.
I’m tired of blasting away my brain cells drink after drink after drink.
I’m tired of being tired and spending life in a coma.

I want to talk about the movement of the stars.
The length of time it takes for light to reach us.
The death and birth of the universe.
What a soul is made of.
Why words have meaning,
And why humans really don’t.
The non-linear movement of time as it passes through our construction of reality.
The line that defines one heartbeat from the last.

I want to connect on the deepest levels of conscious understanding without the vapid vacuity of redundant platitudes.

I just want to be your friend.

Because even when it’s blue,
My blood always runs red.

When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time buried in art. My senior year of high school was largely spent at the @desmoinesartcenter when I should have been in class 😬
I’ve always admired the power of an artist to take their muse and bring it to life. So often that muse is pain, and experience.
Art is cathartic.
Art is universal.
Art is the closest we will ever come to divinity in our mortal shells.

A few months ago, I had the privilege to spend an entire day at the @artsmia and take in the beauty that surrounded. MIA has been a powerful escape for me in the past 11 years I’ve been in the cities.
Without art, in any form, I would not be even half the person I am today.

All of this to say, even when you don’t realize it, you are surrounded by its power. A friend of mine is raising money with @northsuburbanarts to help bring art to communities outside of the cities that otherwise wouldn’t have that access. No one should ever be deprived of that experience.
If you can, consider donating even just a few dollars to such an amazing cause for all generations to have the access so many take for granted.
